When questioned regarding the performance driver R Holmes advised the gelding had travelled well however failed to respond when placed under pressure and proved disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a high heart rate and slow recovery. Trainer D Keast advised he would have blood tests taken from the gelding in the coming days and Stewards will follow up the results. Trainer D Keast advised Stewards on 3 September blood tests taken from OHOKA NICO revealed no abnormalities adding the gelding has also had a knee treated since last racing.

After viewing the replays driver A Clark did not contest the protest and MASSIVE MERC was disqualified by the Stewards.
