Race Comments

Race 1   NORWOOD MACHINERY (AMATEUR DRIVERS) MOBILE PACE
HES SANTAS EXCUSE - late scratching at 10.16am due to the track conditions.
FOVEAUX GAMBLER - locked wheels with GOORAMBAT ART which hung inwards racing into the first bend. Amateur driver C Negus admitted a breach of Rule 869(2) and the Whip and Rein Regulations in that she used her whip with more than a wrist flicking motion early in the run home and then in a continuous manner. After viewing the replays and hearing submissions on penalty the Adjudicative Committee imposed a fine of $500.
PURE COURAGE - fractious prior to the start.
JUST ASK PADDY - held up early and middle stages of the run home. Driver N Munro advised he did not activate the sliding blinds in consequence.
GOORAMBAT ART - raced wide early. Hung inwards racing into the first bend and locked wheels with FOVEAUX GAMBLER despite the efforts of driver B Wilmott. A warning was placed on the racing record of the gelding. Stewards investigated a possible breach of the Push Out Rule near the 1400m. After questioning drivers B Wilmott (GOORAMBAT ART), D Roberts (MOTOR MOUTH), A Edge (OFF THE EDGE) and reviewing the replays, it was established MOTOR MOUTH had shifted wider before GOORAMBAT ART reached its sulky wheel. It was also confirmed OFF THE EDGE moved outwards behind MOTOR MOUTH while racing to the inside of GOORAMBAT ART without forcing that runner wider. After considering the drivers' explanations, Stewards concluded no breach of the Push Out Rule had occurred and took no further action.
Race 2   MID-WINTER CHRISTMAS ON SALE NOW TROT

Authorisation of 1st placing was withheld until Stewards had spoken to driver R May (KAMILLA) placed 2nd, who confirmed his chances had not been affected and that he did not wish to proceed with a protest. Driver S Clarke was issued a warning to make a greater effort to maintain a straight course in the run home in future.
