Race 1   WATERWAYS & CIVIL MOBILE PACE
ANYTIME AT ALL - trainer B Ward admitted a breach of Programming Conditions Regulation 15 in that he was late to present his two stable runners on course. After hearing submissions on penalty the Adjudicative Committee imposed a fine of $100.
SPIRITUAL BLISS - over-raced early when being restrained to obtain cover. Continued to over-race through the middle stages.
JAY R TOLKIEN - broke in the score up and was out of position at the start. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the gelding. Raced wide early. Over-raced for a distance passing the 1100m when being restrained to obtain cover. Weakened final bend.
BRONSKI - trainer D Williamson was issued a warning for presenting the gelding to race without the notified anti choke device which was fitted prior to the start. Weakened from the 900m. When questioned regarding the performance driver C Thornley was unable to provide any explanation. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding had suffered an atrial fibrillation. Stood down pending a veterinary clearance including the results of an ECG prior to completing one satisfactory trial before resuming.
Race 2   KB ELECTRICS-ANNE THOMPSON GRADUATION (HEAT 1) TROT
ZHUTEE - over-raced middle stages. Trotted roughly and attempted to buck passing the 1800m hampering trailing runners. A warning was placed on the racing record of the filly. Driver S Tomlinson advised she would be recommending gear changes prior to the filly racing next.
STORMBREAKER - broke shortly after the start losing ground. Hampered near the 1800m. Broke near the 1700m losing ground. Broke again near the 500m losing all chance. A warned was placed on the racing record of the gelding.
MUSCLE DASH - held up until late in the run home.
RONDO TROUBLE - hung inwards and trotted roughly middle stages.
MONARO MEDORA - hampered near the 1800m. Weakened from the 700m. When questioned regarding the performance trainer/driver M Heenan advised he was disappointed with the effort and could offer no explanation. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
MASS DISRUPTION - lay inwards near the 1500m striking a track marker. Lay inwards again rounding the final bend striking track markers. Driver H Orange advised the gelding cast the near front shoe during the running.
SON E - hampered near the 1800m. Broke just prior to the finish line. Stewards lodged a protest against 4th placing being awarded under Rule 870(5) alleging the gelding was lapped on at the finish by MASS DISRUPTION. Connections did not contest the protest and SON E was relegated to 5th placing by the Stewards.
BILLY KIMBER - hampered near the 1800m.
Race 3   KSTRUCT CANTERBURY PLAINS CHALLENGE (HEAT 5) MOBILE PACE
FAST ACE - raced wide early. Held up rounding the final bend and in the early and middle stages of the run home.
ROBYNS ART - out of position at the start despite the efforts of driver H Orange. Placed on the unruly for future mobile starts.
HOPE FOR LOVE - held up throughout the run home. Driver A Tomlinson advised she did not activate the removable deafeners in consequence.
HANOI FRANCO - weakened in the run home.
TOUCH N GO - over-raced middle stages.
Race 4   GOODWIN CONTRACTING-ANNE THOMPSON (HEAT 2) TROT
KINGAROY - broke near the 1700m hampering trailing runners losing ground.
TROUBLE PAT - hampered by a breaking runner near the 1700m. Broke near the 1500m hampering an outside runner losing all chance. A warning was placed on the racing record of the mare,
MAJIC N THE PORT - fractious prior to the start.
NOBILO - pre-race warmed. Trotted roughly early in the run home.
GIMME THREE STEPS - broke after 150m losing ground. Trotted roughly though the middle stages. Broke near the 1900m and again on several occasions losing all chance. A warning was placed on the racing record of the gelding.
KAMILLA - weakened final bend.
ALL CONQUERED - trainer A Washington was issued a warning for being late to notify the gelding would be racing with a pacifier and without the notified half hopples. Refused to come up into line prior to the start and stood on the mark losing all chance. Declared a non-runner by Stewards under Rule 213(1)(e) due to unsatisfactory manners prior to the start. Stood down to trial to the satisfaction of Stewards on one occasion from a standing start prior to resuming.
BULLET - tangled away. Hampered by a breaking runner near the 1700m. Again hampered by a breaking runner near the 1500m.
B K MUMMA JAMIE - broke shortly after the start losing all chance. When questioned regarding the performance trainer/driver P Wakelin advised she would be making gear changes prior to the mare racing next. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
Race 5   DIESEL TECH-ANNE THOMPSON GRADUATION (HEAT 1) MOB PACE
SPIRIT DOWNUNDER - lay outwards throughout the run home.
CRYSTAL - broke shortly after the start hampering trailing runners losing ground. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the filly. Raced wide from the 800m. Weakened final bend. When questioned regarding the performance driver C Butt was unable to provide any explanation. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
THE TOWN OF LIGHT - weakened final bend.
ASSISI LOVER - raced wide early.
MIDSUMMER DREAMING - hampered by a breaking runner shortly after the start. Weakened from the 600m.
SON OF DOC - hampered by a breaking runner shortly after the start. Weakened from the 600m.
HONOUR BRIGHT NOTE - lay inwards striking a track marker before weakening near the 900m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a high heart and respiratory rate. Trainer K Gill advised she will have blood tests taken from the mare in the coming days and Stewards will follow up the results.
Race 6   McCONCHIE BUILDERS TROT
BRIAN BEATT - held up throughout the run home. Struck a track marker near the 150m when anticipating a run. Driver S Tomlinson was issued a warning.
KERRALLY - weakened final bend.
DIAMOND HARBOUR - broke near the 1050m losing ground. Trotted roughly and weakened from the 800m and was retired from the race. When questioned regarding the performance trainer K James advised the gelding would be freshened and returned to the trials prior to resuming. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
BODACIOUS - trotted roughly early stages losing ground.
Race 7   DMJ BUILDERS-ANNE THOMPSON GRADUATION (HEAT 2) MOB PACE
CASH IS KING - weakened from the 700m. When questioned regarding the performance driver B Butt was unable to provide any explanation. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a poor recovery. Stewards will follow up with connections in the coming days.
DELIGHT WITH ME - raced ungenerously on several occasions throughout causing driver S Tomlinson some difficulty.
CELESTIAL SEA - driver M Lewis was issued a warning for trailing too closely on several occasions during the running.
RACK'EM UP - broke in the score up however was in position at the start.
SLYX - broke at the start losing ground and then raced greenly in the early stages causing driver R May difficulty. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the gelding. When questioned regarding the performance Mr May advised the gelding had paced roughly on several occasions throughout and he would be recommending gear changes.
CARRERA TRANQUILO - raced greenly in the score up and was out of position at the start. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the mare.
ONE OF THESE NIGHTS - over-raced early stages.
Race 8   WAIMAKIRIRI BUSINESSES RANGIORA WINTER CUP (HCP PACE)
The start was delayed due to RENEGADE requiring farrier attention.
BUCKSKIN - driver K Butt reported one hopple shortener failed to activate due to becoming entangled.
WOODBINE ROCKS - broke at the start losing ground. Weakened from the 900m. When questioned regarding the performance trainer L Hanrahan advised he was disappointed and could offer no explanation. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Stewards will follow up with Mr Hanrahan in the coming days.
HOMEBUSH LAD - driver G Thornley will be spoken to in the coming days regarding the manner in which she drove in the run home.
TANZANIA - driver G O'Reilly was warned for half carting passing the 1400m.
PINSEEKER - paced roughly in the early stages losing ground.
Race 9   MAINSTREET SPORTS BAR MOBILE PACE
SOFIA ROSE - had difficulty obtaining clear racing room throughout the run home.
ALLBETSROFF - connections advised the gelding has had a fetlock treated since last racing.
DR GACHET - checked and broke near the 300m losing all chance.
JOSE QUIVERA - raced wide early.
MIKI BENNETT - shifted ground outwards near the 300m checking DR GACHET (G O'Reilly) which broke losing all chance. Junior driver N Burton (assisted by J Cox) defended a breach of Rule 869(3)(b) alleging she drove carelessly when shifting ground. After viewing the replays and hearing evidence from all parties the Adjudicative Committee found the charge proved and Miss Burton's driver's licence was suspended from the conclusion of racing on 30 April up to and including 4 May 2025 (2 days).
Race 10   AUTO SELF SERVE WAIMAK JUNCTION & GREYWACKE RD TROT
REAL MOONSHINE - trainer M Jones was issued a warning for presenting the mare to race without the notified blinds which were fitted prior to the start. Crowded by an outside runner when weakening rounding the final bend and struck track markers.
LOVE WALKED IN - lay inwards rounding the final bend crowding an inside runner.
SILVERLININGS - trainer D Burrows was issued a warning for presenting the mare to race without the notified blinds. Stewards questioned driver G Smith regarding the starting position of the mare. Mr Smith advised he had been hampered by REGAL SPIRIT which was being led by the Clerk of the Course as the field turned into line which resulted in him being unable to shift wider on the track to his unruly position. After viewing the replays and considering his explanation Stewards took the matter no further other than to remind Mr Smith of his obligations.
REGAL SPIRIT - fractious prior to the start requiring assistance from the Clerk of the Course after bolting into the inside of the track in the preliminary. Slow in the early stages. Hung inwards rounding the bends losing ground. Stood down to trial to the satisfaction of Stewards on one occasion prior to resuming.
Race 11   FIVE STAGS-CANTERBURY PLAINS CHALLENGE (HEAT 6) MOBILE PACE
ESTER LUCY - paced roughly rounding the final bend when held up by a weakening runner and struck track markers. Trainer D Broadhurst was issued a $100 Minor Infringement Notice after a side hopple carrier came adrift during the running.
SARGENT BEST - weakened from the 600m. When questioned regarding the performance driver J Cox advised the gelding had raced lethargically and he was disappointed with the effort. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Stewards will follow up with connections in the coming days.
HE'S TOUGH - over-raced early stages. Weakened final bend hampering trailing runners.
SWEET GLORY - over-raced middle stages. Weakened leaving the final bend.
JUDINE - held up by a weakening runner final bend.
FLYING FOR ME - when questioned regarding the improved performance trainer D Reardon advised the gelding had raced wide throughout at its last start which was its first run back from a spell and had received an economical run today.
