LUKAKU - hampered when locking stays briefly with an inside runner early in the run home. Driver J Darby admitted a charge under Rule 869(2) and the Whip and Rein Regulations in that he used his whip with more than a wrist flicking motion in the run home. After viewing the replays and hearing penalty submissions the Adjudicative Committee suspended Mr Darby's driver's licence from the conclusion of racing today up to and including the 4 April 2025 (2 days). | |
TUGAWAR - permission was given for a rein burr to be removed prior to the start with the gelding then requiring assistance from an attendant. Slow to score up but was in position at the candy pole. A final warning was placed on this runner's barrier manners. Paced roughly at the start then again entering the first turn. Weakened final turn. Trainer I Brownlee advised Stewards that the gelding would not compete in an amateur race again in the future. When questioned regarding the tactics he adopted during the middle stages Driver J Brownlee advised that TUGAWAR had commenced to over-race when he initially attempted to restrain to look to take a trail on DESERT DAWN so felt it was his best option to not persist with attempting to surrender the position as he was concerned that the gelding may become fierce and choke down. Stewards noted Mr Brownlee's comments and the performance. | |

DESERT DAWN - raced wide early and middle stages when unable to secure the position outside the leader then was restrained to the rear near the 1200m. Weakened leaving the final turn. When questioned regarding the performance Driver D Roberts stated that the effort when caught wide for the first lap had taken its toll. |

Underwent a post-race veterinary and endoscopic examination at the request of connections which revealed a swollen epiglottis that will require reassessment and/or treatment.
