Race Comments

Race 1   KAPITI MEMBERS & SUPPORTERS HANDICAP TROT
SENIOR CONSTABLE LIZ - slow to begin. Broke shortly after the start losing all chance. A warning was placed on the filly's barrier manners.
SCOOTS - Driver A Pyers was warned for contacting track markers near the 1600m. Trotted roughly near the 500m. Weakened final turn.
HENRIK LUNDQVIST - raced clear in the lead through the middle stages. Driver J Abernethy was warned for contacting track markers near the 500m. Weakened in the run home.
HOT JESSIE - broke shortly after the start losing ground. Broke again near the winning post on the first occasion losing all chance.
KING OF DIAMONDS - broke at the start losing ground. A warning was placed on the gelding's barrier manners. Weakened in the run home.
TRIFOLIUM - broke at the start losing all chance.
Race 2   RAILWAY HOTEL OTAKI MOBILE PACE
TRES BONNE FILLE - over-raced middle stages.
HAWTHORNDEN BEACH - paced roughly early when being restrained to the rear. Broke near the 600m losing all chance. Broke again near the 250m when trailing the field. A warning was placed on the mare's racing manners.
Race 3   MURRAY GIBBS RACING STABLES MOBILE PACE
PASS CODE - raced keenly when leading middle stages. Paced roughly passing the 600m. The removable deafener hood became detached after having been activated early in the run home.
GOLDEN LINE - paced roughly late in the score up.
RAY SAUCE - lay out late in the score up and was back from position at dispatch. Continued to race erratically at various stages. Weakened in the run home. Driver G Martin reported that the bit had shifted during the running placing him at a considerable disadvantage.
WHITEBAIT DELIGHT - back from position at dispatch. Raced wide from the 800m.
Race 4   THE BOUNDARY TAP & KITCHEN MOBILE PACE
PLAY THE ACE - paced roughly in the score up and was back from position at dispatch.
MAJOR BREAK - shifted out under pressure late in the run home having to be corrected by driver P Ferguson.
MESSENGER BUOY - weakened in the run home. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding had suffered an atrial fibrillation. Stood down pending a veterinary clearance including the results of an ECG before completing one trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to resuming.
Race 5   KAPITI COAST HARNESS RACING CLUB TROTTING CUP (HCP TROT)
THE GARDENER'S PRIDE - hampered by a breaking runner shortly after the start. Weakened in the run home.
JACCKA BAYLIS - switched to a pace shortly after the start then broke hampering a trailing runner losing all chance to finish distanced. A warning was placed on the gelding's barrier manners.
SWEET OLIVIA - broke near the 500m losing ground. Had to shift inwards near the 100m to avoid a weakening runner. Authorisation of this runner's 4th placing was withheld until Stewards confirmed the mare had complied with the Breaking Horses Regulation when in a break. Driver C Hackett advised she elected not to activate the deafeners due to the mare trotting roughly throughout the run home.
MANCHESTER IN TIME - hampered and lay in contacting track markers passing the 500m. When questioned regarding the performance Driver J Abernethy stated that the gelding had been unable to make up its 50m handicap given the strong tempo throughout.
Race 6   MONK FAMILY MOBILE PACE
UNCLE DREW - pulled hard in the score up.
CAULFIELD - a hopple side carrier came adrift during the running. No action was taken against caretaker trainer S Dickson after it was established that tape had been applied to all carriers.
SHEZA MERMAID - broke in the score up losing all chance. A warning was placed on the mare's barrier manners.
SAYS WHO - paced roughly over the early stages.
MILLION DOLLAR CHIC - back from position over the latter stages of the score up. Driver C Hackett was issued with a warning.
Race 7   GRANT PLUMBING LTD WELLINGTON CUP (MOBILE PACE)
LORD DELMAR - lay out throughout the run home despite the efforts of driver A Poutama resulting in GOTTA ELECT BILL racing wider. A warning was placed on the gelding's racing manners.
IDOLOU - paced roughly for a stride near the 300m when awkwardly placed to the sulky of STEALERS WHEEL which was shifting out off the back of VICTOR BRAVO which also shifted ground outwards at this point. Driver L Hibell (IDOLOU) was shown the replay and spoken to advisedly in relation to the manner in which she drove in this incident.
HERB - required assistance from an attendant in the pre-race formation. A warning was placed on the gelding's barrier manners. Over-raced when being restrained in the early stages.
GOTTA ELECT BILL - raced wide early.
THE NEXT BEST THING - broke at the start losing considerable ground. Placed on the Unruly for future mobile starts.
Race 8   NZ PROUD PROPERTY IMPROVEMENTS MOBILE PACE
WHITFIELD - retired in the early stages after the near fore hopple loop dropped shortly after the start. The gear was inspected and found to have been in satisfactory condition with no further action deemed necessary.
DIDJASHOUTTHEBAR - paced roughly for a stride near the 1500m when at the rear.
BENJAMIN BUTTON - held up early and middle stages of the run home.
RAKERO SCOTTY - weakened final turn. An investigation was opened into the manner in which M Hay (RAKERO SCOTTY) and H Orange (DIDJASHOUTTHEBAR) drove entering the first turn when competing for a position in the running line at the rear of the field. Trainer F Mitchell advised that an issue with the offside sulky wheel not operating correctly had probably had a bearing on the gelding's performance.
