Race 1   SPEIGHTS TROT
WYPOUT - broke at the start losing ground.
LOVER BOY - weakened final bend.
JUST RICKY - backed away just prior to the barrier being released then stood on the mark losing all chance. Authorisation of dividends was withheld when driver K Gill requested to view Stewards footage of the start to determine whether her runner had been denied a fair start. Stewards sought a ruling from the Adjudicative Committee who, after viewing replays, declared JUST RICKY a runner, ruling the gelding had not been denied a fair start. Miss Gill was warned for using her whip with more than a wrist flicking motion in the early stages.
SIGNAL HILL - fractious prior to the start.
BILLY KIMBER - checked by an outside runner as the start was effected before breaking in the early stages losing all chance.
BIG AL - checked by an outside runner as the start was effected and stood on the mark in consequence losing considerable ground. Weakened final bend.
CALL DUDLEY - shifted inwards abruptly as the start was effected checking an inside runner. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the gelding. Broke in the early stages losing ground. Authorisation of 3rd placing was withheld until the Stewards were satisfied the gelding had complied with the Breaking Horses Regulation when breaking in the early stages.
Race 2   APPARELMASTER PACE
AMBLESIDE DRIVE - paced roughly at the start.
THE TOWN OF LIGHT - broke at the start losing ground. Driver H Stewart was warned for using her whip with more than a wrist flicking motion in the run home.
IDEAL CONQUEROR - weakened leaving the final bend.
ALWAYS B HAYLEY - paced roughly early in the run home having to be steadied.
COSMIC STAR - co-trainers M & K Gill were issued a warning after presenting the gelding without the notified anti-choke device. Weakened passing the 300m.
Race 3   THE BROADWAY TEAROOMS & BAKERY MOBILE PACE
A false start was declared when SWIMMING POOLE raced greenly in the score up and attempted to get its head under the barrier arm on multiple occasions before breaking and checking MAJOR MONEYMAKER. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the gelding. Sent to the Unruly position by Starter R Donnelly for the restart where the horse will remain for future mobile starts.
SHE'S A MAJOR ACT - weakened leaving the final bend hampering trailing runners. When questioned regarding the performance driver S Hill advised the filly had raced lethargically and had been disappointing however may not have been suited by today's track conditions. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a high respiratory rate and slow recovery. Stewards will follow up with connections in the coming days. Mr Hill was warned for driving with his foot out of the sulky footrest in the run home.
THE MANTIS - raced wide from the 700m.
MAJOR MONEYMAKER - lay inwards in the score up and was out of position at the start. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the gelding.
FEAR GOGH - raced wide early.
DREAM BOYZ - raced wide early.
TUPPENCE - raced four wide from the 700m.
MOONLITE - lay inwards near the 1000m contacting several track markers. Held up by a weakening runner leaving the final bend. Driver R Close admitted a breach of Rule 868(3) in that he failed to drive his runner out to the finish of the race when having a reasonable chance of finishing in 4th placing. After viewing the replays and considering submissions on penalty the Adjudicative Committee suspended Mr Close's driver's licence from the conclusion of racing on 2 January 2025 up to and including 8 January 2025 (3 days).
TASI AHNAU - paced roughly after being held up by the weakening SHE'S A MAJOR ACT leaving the final bend. Struck the sulky wheel of SHE'S A MAJOR ACT when shifting inwards to obtain clear running early in the run home. Driver W House was issued with a warning.
Race 4   HOTEL REEFTON LIQUOR CENTRE PACE
RUTHERFORD - came together with an inside runner early in the run home.
YOGI'S COLADA - over-raced early and middle stages. Crowded by an outside runner racing over the crossing near the 1100m contacting several track markers.
INTERRORGATOR - lay outwards early in the run home despite the efforts of driver B Orange briefly coming together with an outside runner.
FLOOZY SUZY - lay inwards near the 1100m when racing over the crossing crowding an inside runner. Broke near the 1000m losing all chance. A warning was placed on the racing record of the filly.
WESTBURN ABBY - broke at the start losing ground. Weakened leaving the final bend.
MY SKATJIE - lay inwards near the 1100m contacting several track markers.
Race 5   PROPERTY BROKERS - LINDA & MARK TROT
TARUKENGA - hampered by a breaking runner near the 2150m. Weakened from the 700m. Stood down to trial on one occasion to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to resuming.
POPNROCK - broke near the 2150m hampering trailing runners losing ground. A warning was placed on the racing record of the gelding.
KERRALLY - hampered by a breaking runner near the 2150m. When questioned regarding the performance driver C Dalgety advised he was disappointed with the effort and could offer no explanation. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormalities. Connections advised the mare may not have backed up from its two runs at Westport.
HIGH NOON - hampered by a breaking runner near the 2150m. Held up by a weakening runner for a distance passing the 700m. Again held up early in the run home.
SOLEMN SON - raced wide early.
MAKE MY DAY - hampered by a breaking runner near the 2150m and broke losing ground. Over-raced middle stages. Broke again near the 500m losing all chance. Stood down to trial on one occasion to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to resuming. Driver H Sail was advised to ensure he starts wider on the track when drawn Unruly.
Race 6   FEDERATION MINING PACE
RED WINE KISSES - broke shortly after the start hampering trailing runners losing all chance. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the filly.
HE'S A BAY - driver S Thornley reported he sustained a punctured sulky tyre leaving the final bend. Mr Thornley was warned for using his whip with more than wrist flicking motion in the run home.
HE'S TOUGH - broke shortly after the start hampering a trailing runner losing ground. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the gelding. Weakened leaving the final bend.
BLUE ROCK DANCER - over-raced middle stages. Lay outwards and raced fiercely rounding the final bend and early in the run home despite the efforts of driver B Hope resulting in the gelding striking the sulky wheel of HE'S A BAY with the tyre puncturing. A warning was placed on the racing record of the gelding. Connections advised they would be making gear changes prior to the gelding resuming. Mr Hope was warned for using his whip with more than a wrist flicking motion in the run home.
WIND IN THE WIRE - broke at the start losing all chance. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the gelding.
MICHAEL EYRE - the off side hopple side carrier came adrift during the running. The gear was inspected and found to be in good condition and sufficiently taped with co-trainers J & I Thomas deemed not to be at fault.
BROMAC TIMES - hampered by a breaking runner shortly after the start.
RAPID RESPONSE - hampered by a breaking runner shortly after the start. Weakened from the 400m.
Race 7   IRVING FAMILY MOBILE PACE
THE NEXT BEST THING - broke late in the score up losing ground. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the gelding.
STANLEY'S RULE - held up leaving the final bend.
DON JUAN - held up leaving the final bend. Paced roughly near the 50m.
FRANCO HOFFMAN - trainer M House (W House as agent) was issued with a $200 Minor Infringement Notice for failing to report the gelding had suffered abrasions to the hip region when being transported to the course.
DESTINY DANCE - when questioned regarding the performance driver S Ottley advised she was slightly disappointed however felt the gelding may be feeling the effects of recent racing.
Race 8   M S MOORE CONTRACTING TROT
The start was delayed due to KNOWING ME requiring farrier attention after casting a shoe in the preliminary.
HERE COMES JANE - held up early in the run home.
BEVRON - late scratching on veterinary advice at 9.00am.
GINAS MAJESTY - trotted roughly passing the 1300m losing ground. Weakened from the 800m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormalities. Trainer I Cameron advised the gelding will be sent for a lengthy spell.
KNOWING ME - broke at the start losing ground. Trotted roughly over the concluding stages before breaking shortly after the finish. Authorisation of 2nd placing was withheld until Stewards were satisfied the mare had complied with the Breaking Horses Regulation when breaking in the early stages and was also in the correct gait when its nose reached the finish line. Driver P Davis admitted a breach of Rule 869(2) and the Whip & Rein Regulations in that he used his whip with more than a wrist flicking motion in the run home. After viewing replays and considering submissions on penalty the Adjudicative Committee imposed a fine of $400.
GAZZA BEATT - broke leaving the final bend losing all chance.
NOAH MAGNIFIC - fractious prior to the start.
DIEDRE FRANCO - broke at the start losing all chance and was retired from the race.
Race 9   RANGIORA FLOOR PRIDE / HE'S A GOOD SORT MOBILE PACE
HIT THE LIGHTS - contacted track markers near the 1400m. Driver W House was issued with a warning.
DANCE WITH THE BOSS - contacted track markers leaving the final bend. Driver C Dalgety was issued with a warning.
MOTOR MOUTH - weakened leaving the final bend.
MILLWOOD GODDESS - permission was granted for the mare to race in alternative colours.
DESTINY'S DREAM - broke at the start losing all chance and was retired from the race. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the mare.
DELTA KILO - broke at the start losing ground. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the gelding. Lay in and contacted a track marker near the 1100m. Weakened from the 800m.
EASTWOOD DREAM - broke shortly after the start losing all chance and was retired from the race. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the gelding.
Following the running of this race the track conditions were downgraded to Slow.
Race 10   ROSCO CONTRACTORS REEFTON PACERS CUP (HANDICAP PACE)
GOTTA ELECT BILL - broke at the start losing ground.
ARCHIE - weakened leaving the final bend.
CLONAKILTY - co-trainer B White advised the gelding had been treated for a virus since last racing. Fractious prior to the start and backed away just prior to the barriers being released with the gelding breaking and losing ground.
DENNIS DENUTO - lay outwards in the run home.
PICCADILLY PETE - broke at the start losing ground. Lay inwards in the run home.
HOMEBUSH LAD - briefly crowded passing the 100m when runners either side shifted ground marginally.
Race 11   DAWSONS HOTEL REEFTON TROTTERS CUP (HANDICAP TROT)
PORT PEGASUS - late scratching at 4.48pm due to the downgrade in track conditions.
ONE EL - lay outwards through the middle stages.
KD ROYALTY - broke shortly after the start losing ground. Weakened from the 600m.
MAVIS JONES - pre-race warmed.
STYX JEWEL - trotted roughly in the early stages losing ground. Broke passing the 1200m losing all chance and was retired from the race by driver W House who advised the mare had failed to handle the track conditions.
TU TANGATA - broke at the start losing ground. Broke again near the 1700m. Broke on a further occasion near the 300m losing all chance.
ROYDON MUSCLE - weakened from the 400m.
Following the running of this race the track conditions were downgraded to Heavy.
Race 12   LANTERN COURT HOTEL MOBILE PACE
A false start was declared when ONELOVEONELIFE shifted inwards late in the score up and crowded RUBY'S A DELIGHT which was unable to take up its position. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the gelding. Driver C Dalgety elected to remain in his allocated position for the restart.
LETS GET TROPICAL - held up by a weakening runner final bend.
