LORD POPINJAY (Race 8 #9) was briefly shown as a scratching on 21 December following a misunderstanding between connections and the club before being reinstated to the field pursuant to Rule 834(7).

Race 1   NEW YEARS EVE AT THE CLUBHOUSE HANDICAP TROT
CAVIAR NOIRE - underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after not having raced for a considerable period and was cleared to start. Broke near the 600m losing all chance.
ALDEBARAN WHAT - started from unruly 3 after being placed on the unruly at the Trainers' request following the fields having been published. Driver B Hackett was warned for using his whip with more than a wrist flicking motion early in the run home.
BUSY CANOODLING - lay in rounding the turns.
SAMS THE MAN - broke shortly after the start losing all chance.
CHEMICAL DREAMS - over-raced middle stages. Weakened in the run home.
Race 2   SUMMER OUTDOOR MOVIE SERIES AT THE RACEWAY MOBILE PACE
PROVISEUR - weakened final turn.
CYREN SHARD - over-raced middle stages.
OHOKA ACHILLES - underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after not having raced for a considerable period and was cleared to start.
COLONEL LINCOLN - Driver N Delany was shown the replay and spoken to advisedly in relation to the manner in which he drove when allowing his gelding to shift outwards in the run home.
Race 3   MAYNE BAX MOBILE PACE
REET PETITE - broke early in the score up and took no part. A warning was placed on the filly's barrier manners.
ROY KENT - lay in rounding the final turn and early stages of the run home.
Race 4   KATIES 2ND ROUND TO NZ MOBILE PACE
TUAREG - hampered by a breaking runner approaching the first turn.
BLUE STAR HIMA - broke near the winning post the first time hampering a trailing runner but soon settled. Lay in at various stages. Weakened in the run home.
SHOWTYM GIRL - broke shortly after the start losing considerable ground. A warning was placed on the filly's barrier manners.
ORORO MUNROE - back from position at dispatch despite the efforts of Driver J Abernethy. A warning was placed on the filly's barrier manners.
THAT IS LOVE - over-raced early and middle stages. Weakened final turn.
LOU WILL - over-raced middle stages. Shifted in near the 100m when Driver C Dalgety activated the removable deafeners but was immediately corrected.
LOVEABLE ROGUE - raced wide early. Weakened in the run home.
Race 5   DUNSTAN HORSEFEEDS HORSE OF THE YEAR MOBILE PACE
The start was delayed after SHIRLEY BASSEY cast a front shoe in the preliminary which was replaced by the farrier.
NEYMAR - paced roughly rounding the final turn and then broke passing the 200m hampering a trailing runner losing all chance. The over-check became detached in this incident. A warning was placed on the gelding's racing manners. In taking this course of action Stewards took into account that the gelding had completed a satisfactory trial after having been stood down at its previous start.
COMMANDER LINCOLN - hampered by a breaking runner near the 200m.
VINCENTS GIRL - held up early final turn. Driver S Abernethy was warned for using his whip in a continuous manner in the run home. Mr Abernethy advised that he had not activated the removable deafeners due to having the field covered.
Race 6   TFS HORSE TRANSPORT MOBILE PACE
MAJOR TOMMY - late scratching at 8.27am due to being sold.
BETTOR REACTION - broke in the early stages of the score up and was back from position at dispatch. A warning was placed on the gelding's barrier manners. Driver T Mitchell was warned for using his whip with more than a wrist flicking motion in the run home.
KATIES PRINCESS - paced roughly entering the first turn after the near fore hopple loop dropped and was taken clear of the field before being retired from the event. It was subsequently established that the carrier had broken with the gear being inspected and found to have been in satisfactory condition.
SAYS WHO - the near side number became detached over the final stages. Driver N Chilcott was warned for using her whip with more than a wrist flicking motion in the run home.
MEDINA MAGIC - weakened in the run home.
MAJOR MAJOR - lay out throughout the run home.
Race 7   GARRARDS HORSE AND HOUND MOBILE PACE
LINCOLN LA MOOSE - paced roughly near the 200m.
BETA PREPARE - raced fiercely middle stages and was taken up the track approaching the 900m before being retired from the event. When questioned Driver T Mitchell advised that he had felt that the gelding had commenced to choke down so took this runner clear of the field for safety reasons. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant abnormality. A warning was placed on the gelding's racing manners.
MATAI PHIL - paced roughly rounding the final turn.
Race 8   CAMBRIDGE TROTTERS CHRISTMAS CUP HANDICAP TROT
ROYAL ACTION - required assistance from an attendant before rearing as the start was declared and broke losing all chance. Retired from the event during the middle stages. A warning was placed on the mare's barrier manners. Authorisation of placings was withheld until Driver L Neal confirmed that this runner had not been denied a fair start. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination at the request of connections who were concerned that the horse may of been lame however no significant abnormality was detected. Stewards will follow up with connections in the coming days.
LOVEMEAGAIN - held up early final turn.
SHESGOLD - broke briefly at the start. Weakened in the run home. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormality. When questioned regarding this runner's performance Driver T Mitchell stated that he felt the mare may not of backed up from its race at Auckland on the 20 December.
LORD POPINJAY - raced keenly middle stages.
MANCHESTER IN TIME - weakened final turn.
MATTY A - raced four wide from the 550m.
Race 9   CAMBRIDGE PACERS CHRISTMAS CUP HANDICAP PACE
ROCK BAND - broke at the start hampering CLAUDE and settled towards the rear.
CLAUDE - the near side number was removed after the clip broke during the preliminary. Hampered by a breaking runner shortly after the start. Weakened in the run home.
FERNETTI - broke briefly at the start. Weakened in the run home. When questioned regarding the performance subsequent to the meeting Caretaker Trainer Z Butcher advised that connections were disappointed with the run which he could only attribute to returning to lefthanded racing, where the gelding wears additional gear, along with the extra distance and rise in grade.
RED RACKHAM - broke briefly at the start. Weakened final turn.
LITTLE SPIKE - required assistance from an attendant in the pre-race formation. A warning was placed on the gelding's barrier manners.
THE BIG LEBOWSKI - required assistance from an attendant in the pre-race formation. A warning was placed on the gelding's barrier manners. When questioned regarding the performance Driver Z Butcher stated that he had attempted to improve three wide approaching the 1400m but forward runners shifted out off the marker line in front of him. He further stated he then attempted to improve down the back straight the final time but had been unable to hold the back of LITTLE SPIKE and had raced wide thereafter. Mr Butcher also added that he had been more than satisfied with the performance given the 35m handicap and the manner in which the race had been run.
Race 10   SLOTS ON SALE FOR NIGHT OF CHAMPIONS HANDICAP TROT
HELSINGOR - checked shortly after the start when to the inside of KISS MY PIXEL which was shifting ground inwards. Stewards opened and adjourned an investigation into this matter. Held up briefly final turn.
SASSY STAR - broke at the start losing all chance.
SONSOFTHEMERCH - broke under pressure near the 150m. A warning was placed on the gelding's racing manners.
HIGHVIEW ROCKN ROLL - trotted roughly under pressure near the 50m.
RUN FOREST RUN - held up approaching the 400m.
DREAMS PAT - broke near the 350m losing its chance. A warning was placed on the gelding's racing manners.
