IVAN THE GREAT - broke briefly shortly after the start hampering a trailing runner. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the gelding. Hampered by a slight easing of the pace and over-raced for a distance passing the 1500m causing driver A Edge difficulty and shifted outwards near the 1350m forcing SWEET SPIRIT to race wider on the track. Lay inwards for a distance and paced roughly when being shifted wider on the track near the 950m. Again lay inwards rounding the final bend causing driver A Edge difficulty and struck the sulky wheel of ARCHIE and broke and shifted inwards checking EVIDENTLY which fell dislodging driver K McClintock. Stood down to trial to the satisfaction of Stewards on one occasion prior to resuming. | |
THE HIGHLANDER - placed in restricted room and raced over track markers near the 1500m. Held up throughout the run home. | |
VRILO - shifted inwards near the 1500m when insufficiently clear of THE HIGHLANDER which struck track markers and had to be restrained. Amateur driver S Manawatu admitted a breach of Rule 869(7A)(c) for causing THE HIGHLANDER to race over track markers and after viewing the replays and hearing submissions on penalty the Adjudicative Committee imposed a fine of $250. | |

EVIDENTLY - hampered by a breaking runner shortly after the start. Checked when IVAN THE GREAT broke and shifted inwards rounding the final bend and fell dislodging driver K McClintock. Mr McClintock was examined by St John paramedics and cleared of injury. A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding revealed no abnormalities. |
