YANKEE JAY - held up late in the run home. Stewards questioned driver J Cox regarding the tactics he adopted near the 250m when shifting outwards instead of maintaining his position in the trail to utilise the passing lane early in the run home. Mr Cox advised that at this stage of the race he felt KIKORANGI BLUE which was racing outside the leader was travelling better than BONDI LUSTRE so he elected to move out to follow that runner. Mr Cox added that upon shifting out he became awkwardly placed close to the wheel of KIKORANGI BLUE and had to steady his gelding which prevented him from shifting out further to obtain clear running. Mr Cox also stated that he had been able to drive his runner out in the run home however the horse had only battled. After considering Mr Cox's explanation, Stewards were satisfied his actions were not unreasonable in the circumstances and took the matter no further.
