HAROLD SMITH - held up leaving the final bend and early in the run home. When questioned regarding the tactics adopted driver B Orange explained that due to the fast tempo of the race through the early stages he elected not to shift wider on the track until near the 600 metres where he had attempted to flush runners outwards ahead of him however this did not eventuate and he was left to race towards the rear of the field. Mr Orange further explained that he was unable to improve wider on the track on the final bend as his horse had locked on the outside rein placing him in some difficulty. Mr Orange added the horse had continued to hang inwards throughout the run home and he would be recommending gear changes. After considering the matter Stewards were satisfied his actions were not unreasonable in the circumstances and no further action was required.
