Race 1   PLACEMAKERS TIMARU TROT
TI AMO BELLE - raced greenly near the 800 metres and in the run home and had to be corrected by driver T Williams resulting in the filly breaking near the 150 metres.
PENELOPE HALL - hampered by a breaking runner near the 100 metres.
THE BEAT - trainer G Smith admitted a breach of Rule 865(2) in that he failed to present the gelding with the notified Pacifier and after hearing penalty submissions the Adjudicative Committee imposed a fine of $150. Broke shortly after the start losing all chance with a warning placed on the gelding's barrier record.
PHOEBE K - slow in the early stages and trotted roughly losing ground. Broke passing the 1200 metres losing all chance.
DASHING DUTCHY - weakened final bend.
Race 2   BC STOCKFEEDS LIMITED PACE
AIRIES GOLD - trainer G Shand advised that the mare has had its hocks treated since last racing.
SARGENT BEST - broke at the start losing ground. Connections advised the gelding had lost an off hind shoe during the running.
LAY ON MACDUFF - broke shortly after the start losing ground. Placed on the unruly for future standing starts. Held up early in the run home. Driver D Burrows admitted a charge under Rule 869(2) and the Whip and Rein Regulations in that he used his whip free of the rein in the run home. After hearing penalty submissions the Adjudicative Committee suspended Mr Burrows driver's licence from the conclusion of racing today up to and including 22 May 2022 (4 weeks).
MIDNIGHT SIOUX - tangled away. Held up early in the run home.
CHEEKYGRIN - junior driver K Newman was warned for using his whip with more than a wrist flicking motion in the run home.
WEONA REACTOR - paced roughly racing into the first bend. Driver D Reardon admitted a charge under Rule 869(2) and the Whip and Rein Regulations in that he used his whip with more than a wrist flicking motion in the run home. After hearing penalty submissions the Adjudicative Committee suspended Mr Reardon's driver's licence from the conclusion of racing today up to and including 8 May 2022 (2 weeks).
FOVEAUX GAMBLER - driver S Tomlinson was questioned regarding her decision not to activate the sliding blinds until late in the run home. Miss Tomlinson explained that she felt the gelding was comfortably holding the field after drawing clear early in the home straight however she had been surprised by the speed of which SARGENT BEST had improved to her inside passing the 100 metres. Miss Tomlinson added she had then activated the sliding blinds but the horse had been unable to quicken. After considering the matter, Stewards were satisfied that Miss Tomlinson had continued to drive her horse out throughout the run home however she was reminded of her obligations to activate any removable gear in a more timely manner in future.
GLAMOUR BOY - broke at the start. Raced wide without cover from the 1000 metres.
APACHE WARRIOR - paced roughly early stages.
Race 3   GERALDINE BUTCHERY MOBILE PACE
SIX TIMES A LADY - driver M Williamson was spoken to advisedly for using his whip with more than a wrist flicking motion in the run home. When spoken to regarding the performance of the mare Mr Williamson advised he was disappointed and could offer no explanation. Trainer B Mowbray was also at a loss to explain the performance and could only advise that the horse may not have backed up from its previous race on 18 April 2022. A post-race veterinary examination revealed slight muscle tie up. Stewards will follow up the recovery of the mare with connections in the coming days.
FROSTY RECEPTION - when spoken to regarding the performance of the mare driver L O'Reilly advised he was disappointed and could offer no explanation.
GOSAKHI - raced wide early. Driver R Cameron was warned for using his whip in a continuous manner in the run home.
KANSAS CITY JIM - weakened over the concluding stages.
HONOUR SCROLL - raced wide early and middle stages until reaching the parked position near the 900 metres.
BEEPS - held up early in the run home.
GET IT ON - driver S Tomlinson reported the sliding blinds were not activated due to having the field covered. When questioned regarding the improved performance trainer D Love advised that the gelding had been recently freshened since its previous two starts and today had received an economical run which had assisted the performance.
Trainer B Mowbray advised Stewards on 1 May that SIX TIMES A LADY has recovered well from its last start and will continue with its current preparation.
Race 4   FRESH CHOICE GERALDINE TROT
EL CONQUEROR - broke after 150 metres losing all chance.
BEYOND THE HORIZON - broke at the start hampering a trailing runner and losing considerable ground.
ILLEGAL ALIEN - drifted up the track under pressure in the home straight. Driver T Williams was warned to make a greater effort to maintain a straight course in the run home.
CODY BANNER - junior driver M Hurrell advised the gelding had trotted roughly in the run home and was unable to be fully driven out.
NORDIC PRINCE - held up by a weakening runner near the 400 metres.
MENTALIST - hampered by a breaking runner at the start.
GRANNY ROSE - weakened on the final bend. Cleared from the unruly for future standing starts.
PRESIDENT PAT - slow in the early stages and trotted roughly losing ground. Raced wide without cover from the 1000 metres. Broke when weakening near the 400 metres.
Race 5   BRENT WHITE STABLES/EQUINE VET MOBILE PACE
ALL TOGETHER NOW - paced roughly near the 1400 metres.
SPICY GIRL BECQUI - had difficulty obtaining clear racing room in the run home.
DON'T QUOTE ME - when spoken to regarding the improved performance the connections advised the gelding has been working well at home and had thrived in the new environment and training regime since recently joining the stable.
TIMES ARE A CHANGIN - had difficulty obtaining clear racing room in the run home.
JORDY - unsuccessfully contested for the lead in the early stages then over-raced shortly thereafter.
Race 6   VILLAGE INN GERALDINE HANDICAP PACE
FULL OF DESIRE - broke at the start losing considerable ground. A warning was placed on the mare's barrier record.
A ROCKNROLL STAR - broke at the start before being hampered by a breaking runner. Over-raced middle stages.
A CRACKER KNIGHT - broke in the early stages losing ground, hampering trailing runner. Driver L Dobbs was warned for using his whip with more than a wrist flicking motion early in the run home.
SHE'S TOUGH - raced wide without cover from the 700 metres.
PIECE OF GOLD - over-raced middle stages.
ANGUS - tangled away. Over-raced early stages before improving three wide with cover. Driver S Boyd was warned for using his whip free of the rein near the 100 metres.
FRANCO MAREK - broke at the start losing ground.
Race 7   GERALDINE GLASS YOUNG AT HEART MOBILE PACE
IT'S ME - hampered leaving the final bend.
BETTERWITHBLING - raced wide early then three wide with cover until reaching the parked position near the 800 metres.
REFINE - raced three wide with cover from the 1400 metres. When spoken to regarding the performance of the mare driver R May advised he was disappointed and could offer no explanation.
NOT REALLY BLONDE - raced three wide with cover from the 1400 metres. Shifted up the track abruptly entering the home straight hampering a trailing runner. Driver R Cameron was warned for his lack of control at this stage when activating gear.
SHARDS FURY - raced wide early.
CHAMPAGNEANDWINE - raced three wide with cover from the 1400 metres until reaching the parked position near the 650 metres. Driver J Morrison reported he did not activate the removable deafeners due to having the field covered.
CLAUS - held up in the early and middle stages of the run home.
SZYBKA LANE - raced wide early then three wide with cover until reaching the parked position near the 1000 metres.
Race 8   MAINLAND AGRICULTURE LIMITED HANDICAP TROT
MAJESTIC ROLLON - trotted roughly in the run home and was unable to be fully driven out.
MASTERLY - trotted roughly in the run home and was unable to be fully driven out.
ALDEBARAN HEATHER - trotted roughly passing the 150 metres.
SILVERLININGS - stood on the mark losing all chance. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the mare.
BOYZ INVASION - fractious prior to the start. Broke at the start losing all chance. Placed on the unruly for future standing starts at the trainer's request.
SAMANTHAS MOON - fractious prior to the start with a warning placed on the mare's barrier record.
MISSALYSSA - raced wide early.
SIOUX PRINCESS - hampered by SILVERLININGS at the start and broke in consequence losing considerable ground. Weakened from the 600 metres.
AVEROSS MAJESTY - slow in the early stages losing ground. Weakened from the 500 metres. When questioned regarding the performance, driver J Cox advised the gelding had raced lethargically throughout. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have a high heart rate and slow recovery with swelling over the loin area. Stewards will follow up with connections in the coming days.
Trainer W D O'Connell advised Stewards on 5 May that AVEROSS MAJESTY will be sent for a lengthy spell.
Race 9   TEMUKA TRANSPORT MOBILE PACE
HURRICANE BANNER - the inside number hung loose and detached during the running. Held up early in the run home.
REFORMED - held up leaving the final bend.
SISTER'S DELIGHT - hampered by an easing of the pace near the 1300 metres.
HONEY FAVOURITE - weakened leaving the final bend.
BETTERTHANHOPE - driver J Hay was warned for the manner he drove near the 1300 metres when easing the pace in the parked position after being unsuccessful in challenging for the lead with trailing runners being hampered. When assessing this incident Stewards could not apportion blame solely on Mr Hay.
FAST ACE - hampered by an easing of the pace near the 1300 metres. Driver R Cameron was shown the films and spoken to advisedly for the manner he drove at this stage of the race when being unaware of the easing of the pace ahead of him resulting in his runner becoming awkwardly placed close to the sulky of TIFFANY'S LEGACY which in turn hampered trailing runners.
ARIZONAWILDCAT - hampered by an easing of the pace near the 1300 metres.
PERAKI REACTOR - hampered by an easing of the pace near the 1300 metres.
R K FINN - briefly held up early in the run home.
TIFFANY'S LEGACY - hampered by an easing of the pace near the 1300 metres.
