COURAGE REACTOR - over-raced through the early and middle stages. Hampered near the 1600 metres by an easing of the pace. Stewards investigated a perceived breach of the Push Out Rule near the 1550 metres when MAJOR FIRE raced wider on the track when positioned to the outside of COURAGE REACTOR. Driver S Ottley (COURAGE REACTOR) explained the filly had been striking the sulky wheels which caused the horse to over-race. Miss Ottley added that when CHOGI had eased the speed ahead of her runner, she had been placed in considerable difficulty and had to shift wider on the track for safety reasons. After considering the matter, Stewards accepted Miss Ottley's explanation and placed a warning on the racing record of COURAGE REACTOR.
BETTOR BACK OFF - when asked to comment on the improved performance driver C Ferguson advised that he was not surprised after the mare had finished on well last week and benefitted from an economical run today.

In taking this course of action Stewards were mindful of the racing manners of several trailing runners which had contributed to the incident.
