BUENA VISTA - weakened final bend. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery and signs of muscle soreness. Stewards questioned driver J Cox regarding the tactics he adopted during the race when allowing his horse to establish a significant lead on the remainder of the field through the early and middle stages. After taking initial evidence from Mr Cox, Stewards adjourned the matter for further consideration. | |

Driver J Cox admitted a breach of Rule 868(2) in that he failed to take all reasonable and permissible measures to ensure BUENA VISTA was given full opportunity to win or obtain the best possible placing by failing to ease his mare to allow it sufficient respite between the 2000 metres and 1200 metres which enabled the horse to establish a significant lead over the remainder of the field before weakening on the final bend. After viewing the replays and hearing submissions on penalty, the Adjudicative Committee suspended Mr Cox's driver's licence from the conclusion of racing on 13 February up to and including 27 February 2022 (5 days). |
