Race 1   THE WAKA / MORE FM MOBILE PACE
GLOVER - when questioned regarding the improved performance driver B Orange reported that the gelding had ran on strongly at its last start on Friday and after receiving a favourable run throughout with the addition of sliding blinds he had not been surprised with the performance.
OPAWA LOUIE - when questioned regarding the improved performance trainer/driver K Cameron reported the gelding had been able to capitilise on a good draw and an economical run throughout. Mr Cameron added that the gelding had over-raced on Friday however had been able to settle due to the fast tempo of the race today.
WHITE DIAMOND GOLD - when questioned regarding the improved performance driver R Close reported that the mare had benefited from being removed from the unruly from its last start and had been able to take up a more forward position in the running.
BONO BROWN - late scratching on veterinary advice when found to be lame after completing its preliminary. Stood down pending a veterinary clearance.
BONDI LUSTRE - held up early stages of the run home.
DANNEMORA - raced wide without cover from the 800 metres.
MELANDO CHIEF - raced wide early stages.
Race 2   HARDY'S BAR & TAB HANDICAP TROT
NORDIC PRINCE - trotted roughly in the run home having to be steadied. Cast a plate during the running.
JUST RICKY - backed away prior to the start causing a delay. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the gelding. Weakened final bend.
TIGHT N BRIGHT - switched to a pace near the 1050 metres when leading before breaking losing all chance. A warning was placed on the racing record of the gelding.
SILK JACKET - broke at the start losing all chance.
GOTTA TICKET - broke racing into the first bend losing all chance. A warning was placed on the racing record of the gelding.
SHES SO RIGHT - weakened final bend.
Race 3   NELSON OTB / ESPRESSO CARWASH PACE
FALCON'S MONARCH - began awkwardly and shifted outwards crowding an outside runner.
HIMSELF - crowded in the early stages and had to be restrained causing the gelding to lose some ground.
AMARLA - underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after briefly falling to the track prior to the start and was passed fit to race. Sent to the unruly by the Starter where it will remain for future standing starts. Slow to begin before pacing roughly through the early stages losing ground.
JUTE - paced roughly racing into the first bend.
RAKERO'S DELIGHT - paced roughly and broke shortly after the start losing ground. Continued to pace roughly rounding the first bend and was eased out of the race by its driver. When questioned regarding the performance driver J Dunn advised that his runner had paced roughly throughout and was unsuited to a short distance standing start. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. A warning was placed on the racing performance of the filly. Stewards will follow up with connections in the coming days regarding the filly's recovery.
GANA - held up for clear racing room until late in the run home.
SHEEZA PURLA - held up for clear racing room throughout the run home. Driver A Cameron reported that she did not activate the sliding blinds in consequence.
SOUTH SEAS ROCK - raced four wide from the 700 metres. Lay inwards leaving the final bend when being shifted wider on the track by an inside runner.
BLUE ROCK DANCER - raced three wide without cover from the 1000 metres before being forced to race four wide from the 800 metres.
Trainer P Burrows advised Stewards on 16 January that RAKERO'S DELIGHT has recovered well since returning from her Nelson assignment and will continue with her current preparation. Mr Burrows added that the filly had got stirred up prior to the race and this contributed to her poor performance.
Race 4   CENTURY PARK MOTOR LODGE MOBILE PACE
GLENGARRY MOONLIGHT - lay outwards over the final stages.
BUDDY REIGN - hung inwards throughout the score up and was out of position at the start. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the gelding.
CORFU BROMAC - held up early stages of the run home.
HELLS ART - hung outwards leaving the final bend and in the home straight when leading and shifted up the track despite the efforts of driver R Close. Mr Close advised that the gelding had raced greenly throughout and he would be recommending gear changes.
MR LINCOLN - broke shortly after the start losing all chance. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the gelding.
SECRET COCKTAIL - driver K Newman was issued with a warning for being late to arrive at the start area.
MAXIMILIAN - raced wide without cover from the 1100 metres.
Race 5   MIKE AUSTIN MEMORIAL HANDICAP TROT
MY MOMENT'S NOW - broke shortly after the start losing all chance.
WANNA PLAY WITH ME - weakened final bend then compounded over the final stages. When questioned regarding the performance driver T Williams could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Stewards will speak to trainer R Todd in the coming days.
HIGHGROVE - broke shortly after the start losing all chance.
Trainer R Todd advised Stewards on 12 January that WANNA PLAY WITH ME has been retired from racing.
Race 6   RAILWAY HOTEL MOBILE PACE
HOPE FOR LOVE - broke briefly in the score up and had to be steadied. Held up early stages of the run home.
SHEELASINLEAGUE - raced wide early stages.
WESTBURN BLISS - raced wide early stages.
ULTIMATE BIRD - raced wide throughout.
BELLE'S BOY - held up early and middle stages of the run home.
KANSAS CITY JIM - paced roughly throughout. Broke over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
WITH GRACE - broke in the early stages of the score up and was out of position at the start. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the mare. Held up early and middle stages of the run home. The all clear was delayed until Stewards and driver S O'Reilly viewed the films of the start and after doing so were satisfied that despite the mare being out of position it had been granted the opportunity of a fair start.
Race 7   SUPER LIQUOR MOTUEKA TROT
NORTIE NORTIE - broke near the 250 metres. Driver J Cox reported that the gelding had cast a plate during the running.
ANNA'S BOY - shifted inwards near the 200 metres and broke losing its chance.
SOUTH PARK - broke after 100 metres and continued on in a break for a considerable distance losing all chance. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the mare.
ISLA ELSIE - trotted roughly throughout the run home.
MENTALIST - trotted roughly on the final bend and lost ground. Broke near the 100 metres.
RUAKAKA - trainer B Butt was warned for presenting the gelding without the notified blinds. Broke near the 150 metres.
Race 8   TAYLORS CONTRACTING MOBILE PACE
AZOR AHAI - over-raced throughout. Weakened leaving the final bend. When questioned regarding the performance driver B Orange advised that in his opinion the gelding had failed to back up from racing on the first day. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
LUELLA - trainers G & N Hope were issued with a warning for being late to notify the addition of blinds.
TAS GIRL BROMAC - compounded from the 600 metres.
CYRUS - when questioned regarding the performance driver J Cox explained that he had been forced to go back from his wide draw and ran on well despite having to improve very wide on the final bend.
Race 9   NELSON PINE INDUSTRIES NELSON CLASSIC FFA (MOBILE PACE)
DHAULAGIRI - held up early stages of the run home.
ABOVE N BEYOND - paced roughly in the run home and was unable to be fully driven out.
ARDEN'S REALITY - held up until late in the run home.
Race 10   MAJESTIC HORSE TRANSPORT PACE
UNCLE CHAN - reared prior to the start causing a delay. The gelding was sent to the unruly by the Starter where it will remain for future standing starts. When questioned as to why he had not released the gelding's shorteners driver J Dunn reported that his horse's gait had worsened in recent starts so due to it pacing fluently today elected not to activate them.
SPECIALE UNO - broke at the start losing ground.
HES FAST AND FURIOUS - paced roughly throughout.
PEMBROOK TILLY - driver J Cox was issued with a warning for being late to arrive at the start area.
PENNETTA - weakened leaving the final bend.
WINEGUM - broke at the start losing ground.
BROTHER JOHN - raced wide early stages.
JEREMY WELLS - hampered by a breaking runner at the start.
Race 11   NBS MOBILE PACE
CELTIC SPIRIT - over-raced early and middle stages. Made contact with the sulky wheel of PAY ME VISA rounding the first bend despite the efforts of driver B Hope after a slight easing of the pace. When questioned regarding the improved performance Mr Hope reported that the horse had derived considerable benefit from recent racing and had received an economical run from an inside barrier draw today.
LITTLE GEE - over-raced middle stages.
PAY ME VISA - sustained a punctured sulky tyre rounding the first bend after being contacted by the trailing CELTIC SPIRIT. Authorisation of 1st placing being awarded to CELTIC SPIRIT was withheld until Stewards had the opportunity to question driver R Close of the 2nd placed PAY ME VISA as to the effect of this impacting on his chances of beating CELTIC SPIRIT. Mr Close believed he still would not have won the race without the interference and elected not to proceed with the matter.
ELO LOUISE - sustained a punctured sulky tyre near the 600 metres when there was an easing of the pace after ROLLYOUROWN had shifted outwards to improve its position.
SOPHIA BROMAC - crowded late in the score up and was back slightly at the start. Hampered by an easing of the pace near the 600 metres. Had difficulty obtaining clear racing room in the run home.
DIXIE REIGN - weakened final bend.
ZIA BROMAC - over-raced early and middle stages.
EMMA'S BOY - over-raced shortly after the start and made contact with the sulky wheel of LITTLE GEE when shifting outwards before racing wide on the track. Stewards spoke to driver J Curtin regarding this who advised that his runner had proved extremely difficult at this time and felt it was in the interest of safety to shift wider. A warning was placed on the racing record of the gelding.
GOSSIP GIRL - hampered in the early stages and had to be restrained to accommodate EMMA'S BOY. Raced wide without cover from the 800 metres.
