MOONLIGHT ANGEL - R May replaced L O'Reilly as the driver due to transport difficulties. Weakened on the final bend.
SUNNY SON - broke racing into the first bend losing ground. Checked on the final bend.
GINAS MAJESTY - broke passing the 400 metres and shifted inwards despite the efforts of driver I Cameron, locking wheels with ROSE ISLE with both runners being retired from the race. A warning was placed on the racing record of the gelding.
CASHEM - broke in the early stages losing ground. Placed on the Unruly for future standing starts at the request of trainer K Cameron.
MASTERLY - P Nairn replaced D Butt as the driver due to transport difficulties. Placed in restricted room racing into the first bend and had to be steadied.
NORDIC PRINCE - crowded in the early stages and broke. Trotted roughly in the run home before breaking again near the 100 metres and continued on in a break over the finish line. A Protest was lodged, which connections did not contest, against the gelding's 4th placing and NORDIC PRINCE was subsequently disqualified by the Adjudicative Committee.
FAR MORE ZEALOUS - driver P Davis was warned for using his whip with more than a wrist flicking motion in the run home.
THAT'S ENTERTAINMENT - raced wide in the early stages. Hung inwards racing into the first bend placing an inside runner in restricted room. Broke when racing over the crossing near the 2100 metres losing all chance.
EL CONQUEROR - permission was granted for this gelding to race in alternate colours. Broke rounding the first bend losing all chance.
ANNA'S BOY - raced wide early stages. Broke when racing over the crossing near the 2100 metres. Broke again near the 1100 metres. Checked on the final bend.
JUST RICKY - severely checked rounding the final bend when runners in advance of the gelding locked wheels and was retired from the race.
T K NIHILATOR - very slow to begin and trotted roughly and got back as a result. Continued to trot roughly through the middle stages losing further ground.
AIGUILLE - raced wide in the early stages. Broke briefly when racing over the crossing near the 2100 metres. Driver S Ottley reported a sulky tyre had deflated during the running.
PRESIDENT PAT - trotted roughly in the early stages.
ROSE ISLE - severely checked and locked wheels with GINAS MAJESTY passing the 400 metres with driver B Crothers becoming unbalanced in the sulky with both runners being retired from the race.
Race 2   CRITERION HOTEL PACE
THE HYENA - weakened from the 400 metres.
MAJOR ARMA - permission was granted for the gelding to race in alternate colours.
CUTE ART - held up behind a weakening runner passing the 700 metres.
MELANIA - broke at the start losing ground.
PENNETTA - T Williams replaced L O'Reilly as the driver due to transport difficulties. Weakened on the final bend.
WHITE DIAMOND GOLD - began awkwardly. Raced wide throughout. Weakened from the 700 metres.
OUTAMYWAY - began awkwardly. Raced wide in the early stages. Hung outwards and paced roughly through the middle stages.
WEBS REACTOR - weakened from the 700 metres. A post-race Veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormalities.
WHITE STAR ORLANDO - hung inwards throughout the run home. Driver J Dunn reported he elected not to activate the hopple shorteners due to the gelding pacing more fluently today than in recent starts.
NADIRA FRANCO - weakened leaving the final bend.
FLOSSY REIGN - held up in the middle stages of the run home.
Race 3   PROPERTY BROKERS MOBILE PACE
YOU FLY WITH ME - hampered by a breaking runner near the 900 metres.
MELANDO CHIEF - heavily contacted by AZTEC KING late in the score-up which had shifted ground inwards abruptly with MELANDO CHIEF falling to the track dislodging driver T Walsh from the sulky. Late scratching by Order of Stewards. The gelding was examined by the Veterinarian and cleared of injury. Driver T Walsh was examined by on-course Paramedics and also cleared of any injury.
SPORTS QUEEN - broke passing the 1100 metres losing all chance and was retired from the race. A warning was placed on the racing record of the filly. Trainer M Heaton advised he would be making gear changes prior to the filly racing next.
MAXIMILIAN - raced wide in the early stages. Hampered by a breaking runner near the 900 metres. Junior driver A Cameron (assisted by R May) admitted using her whip with more than a wrist flicking motion on a number of occasions in the run home. After hearing submission on penalty the Adjudicative Committee suspended Miss Cameron's driver's licence from the conclusion of racing on 30 December up to and including 6 January 2022 (3 days).
AMARLA - raced wide in the early stages. Over-raced through the middle stages after unsuccessfully challenging for the lead passing the 2000 metres. Broke when racing over the crossing near the 900 metres losing all chance. A warning was placed on the racing record of the filly.
WHISKEY CAVALIER - held up in the early stages of the run home. Became awkwardly placed close to the sulky of MY ULTIMATE JOHNNY near the 100 metres and broke. When questioned regarding this driver K Cameron advised that the gelding had surprised him when reacting to him releasing the removable deafeners in the early stages of the run home and despite his efforts had made contact with the back of MY ULTIMATE JOHNNY which he had been trailing. After considering the matter Stewards were satisfied that Mr Cameron's actions were not careless and took the matter no further.
AZTEC KING - the Murphy Blind was removed prior to the start due to the gelding warming up unfavourably. A false start was declared when the gelding shifted inwards abruptly late in the score-up severely checking MELANDO CHIEF which fell to the track. As a result driver G Thornley (AZTEC KING) was dislodged from her sulky with the horse escaping driverless for some distance before being captured by the Clerk of the Course. Declared a late scratching by Order of Stewards. Stood down to trial to the Stewards satisfaction on one occasion prior to resuming. Junior driver G Thornley was examined by the on-course Paramedics and cleared of any injury.
OWHATANIGHT - broke in the early stages of the score-up and was well back from its Unruly position at the re-start. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the mare. Hampered by a breaking runner near the 900 metres. Driver P Davis advised he would be recommending gear changes prior to racing on the 2nd day.
Race 4   GRAEME & JOAN McMASTER TROT
HARBOUR QUEEN - crowded by an outside runner racing into the first bend, losing its rightful racing position and struck several track markers.
QUIK SHOT - trainer J Harrington reported the gelding has had a hock injected subsequent to its last start. Tangled away. Trotted roughly in the run home.
BELLA BUTTON - shifted ground inwards racing into the first bend crowding HARBOUR QUEEN which had to be steadied and as a consequence lost its rightful racing position. Driver S Lethaby admitted a charge that he drove carelessly in this incident and after hearing submissions on penalty the Adjudicative Committee suspended Mr Lethaby's driver's licence from the conclusion of racing on 30 December up to and including 28 February 2022 (2 months). Broke near the 400 metres.
GOTTA TICKET - broke briefly at the start losing ground. Weakened on the final bend.
SHIFFTY - weakened on the final bend.
GOOSE HEALY - broke after 150 metres losing all chance. Cleared from the Unruly for future standing starts.
MOONS WAY - broke passing the 700 metres. Broke again passing the 300 metres.
Race 5   ONE AGENCY REAL ESTATE SPECIALISTS PACE
JUSTACE - reared on several occasions prior to the start. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the gelding. Slow to begin.
CHARLIE'S ACE - fractious prior to the start causing a delay and was back from its position when the start was effected. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the mare. Slow to begin.
MAKWALA - slow to begin. Over-raced in the middle stages. Driver B Orange reported he was unable to release the removable deafeners due to the cord breaking. The gear was inspected and found to be in previously good condition.
CHANGEOVER JO - held up on the final bend.
FULL OF DESIRE - weakened on the final bend.
PEMBROOK TILLY - trainer M Pash advised this mare would be racing in season. Raced wide without cover from the 700 metres. Weakened on the final bend.
DAGGY LAMB - following the race trainer D Reardon requested to view the films of the start to determine whether the gelding had been denied a fair start when unable to come into its allotted barrier position prior to the start being effected after being hampered. After viewing the footage, Stewards were satisfied the horse had been denied a fair start and acting under Rule 213(1)(j) declared DAGGY LAMB a non-runner.
Race 6   OLLIE & VIC COLLINS MEMORIAL PACE
CLASSEY ROBIN - over-raced in the middle stages. Had difficulty obtaining clear racing room until late in the run home.
HES FAST AND FURIOUS - the required Veterinary clearance was received.
LE POLE DANCER - broke at the start losing ground. Placed on the Unruly for future standing starts.
SCELTA UNO - trainer R Stuart was warned for presenting this mare to race without the notified blinds.
KUSANOVA - broke at the start losing considerable ground.
WHERE'S DADDY - driver J Dunn reported he did not activate the sliding blinds or release the removable deafeners due to having the field covered.
HELLO ADELE - over-raced through the early stages.
Race 7   PULSE ENERGY WESTPORT CUP (HANDICAP PACE)
KIWI X FACTOR - over-raced in the middle stages.
HOMEBUSH LAD - junior driver B Hope will be spoken to regarding using his whip in a continuous manner over the concluding stages.
TAIRLAW TOLL - driver K Cameron reported he dropped his whip near the 200 metres.
QUARTERBACK - began awkwardly.
BETTOR GRUNTER - weakened leaving the final bend.
JIMMY ARMA - weakened over the concluding stages. When asked to comment on the performance junior driver K Newman advised that the gelding had failed to handle the extra distance of today's race.
JAZELLE - weakened over the concluding stages. When asked to comment on the performance driver S Ottley advised that the mare had peaked on its run leaving the final bend. Trainer M Pash advised that in his opinion the horse would derive considerable benefit from the race.
Driver B Hope (HOMEBUSH LAD) was shown a replay and spoken to advisedly for using his whip in a continuous manner over the concluding stages.
Race 8   KAWATIRI PALMS BEACH PARK MOBILE PACE
BEEPS - driver B Borcoskie defended a charge that he used his whip with more than a wrist flicking motion on a number of occasions in the home straight. After viewing replays and hearing evidence from all parties the Adjudicative Committee found the charge proved and following penalty submissions suspended Mr Borcoskie's driver's licence from the conclusion of racing on 1 January 2022 up to and including 11 January 2022 (3 days).
MYRCELLA - briefly locked wheels with WILL HE ROCK near the 1900 metres.
CHEAPCHEAP - raced wide in the early stages. Weakened on the final bend.
ALENE - raced wide in the early stages. Over-raced in the parked position through the middle stages.
WITH GRACE - out of position at the start. Driver J Dunn will be spoken to regarding this in the coming days. Raced wide without cover from the 1200 metres.
KANSAS CITY JIM - had difficulty obtaining clear racing room in the run home.
SONGBIRD - driver S Ottley reported a sulky tyre had deflated during the running.
WILL HE ROCK - out of position at the start despite the efforts of driver J Simpson. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the gelding. Lay outwards near the 1900 metres and broke for a short distance after briefly locking wheels with MYRCELLA and losing ground.
Stewards spoke with driver J Dunn regarding WITH GRACE being out of position at the start. Mr Dunn explained that the mare had hung inwards and paced roughly in the score-up and despite his efforts had been unable to maintain its position. After considering the matter and viewing the replays which confirmed Mr Dunn's explanation, Stewards placed a warning on the barrier record of WITH GRACE.
Race 9   AFLEX HOMES HANDICAP TROT
SOUTH PARK - broke briefly at the start. Weakened from the 700 metres.
MAJESTIC JAG - over-raced when being restrained to take a trail near the 1300 metres. Driver J Dunn reported he did not release the removable deafeners due to having the field covered.
SALLY LINDENNY - broke passing the 350 metres.
BAXTER - broke briefly at the start.
Race 10   IT@WORK MOBILE PACE
MARTIN JOHN - weakened on the final bend.
AVEROSS RUSTLER - weakened on the final bend.
EYECON - over-raced in the middle stages. Weakened on the final bend.
ROCKNIZZY RULZ - weakened on the final bend.
FIRE FOX - raced wide in the early stages. When asked to comment on the improved performance trainer K Townley advised the gelding had been over-racing in recent starts and had benefitted from being able to lead which had enabled the horse to settle.
JENABELLA - over-raced in the middle stages.
HIGH FLYING HARRY - held up on the final bend behind a weakening runner. Stewards opened and adjourned an investigation into the manner K Newman drove rounding the final bend when electing not to improve his position outwards when an opportunity existed.
GIVEMEWHATINEED - cleared from the Unruly for future mobile starts.
Junior driver K Newman (HIGH FLYING HARRY) assisted by J Dunn defended a charge alleging that he failed to take all reasonable and permissible measures to ensure his runner was given full opportunity to win the race when electing not to shift his horse outwards between the 600 metres and 300 metres when an opportunity existed resulting in HIGH FLYING HARRY becoming held up behind a weakening runner leaving the final bend. After viewing the replays and hearing evidence from all parties, the Adjudicative Committee dismissed the charge.
