Trainer/driver J Harrington was unable to attend the meeting due to illness and was replaced on his drive in Race 1 as per the summary below. Mr Harrington is required to supply a medical clearance before resuming driving.

Race 1   JACK BEHRNS MEMORIAL TROT
THE FIERY SPIRIT - displayed poor barrier manners causing a delay to the start. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the gelding. Broke briefly after 200 metres and had to be steadied then raced greenly for a distance. Broke again for a short distance near the 1100 metres and had to race three wide without cover thereafter. Again broke on the final bend losing further ground. Stood down to complete one satisfactory trial.
SUPERFAST WHIZZ - lay inwards rounding the final bend. When questioned regarding the performance driver J Cox advised his mare had been unsuited to the holding track conditions.
KOSCIUSZKO - broke shortly after the start and shifted outwards checking an outside runner losing all chance. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the gelding.
SHOW THE WAY - trainer B Williams was issued a warning for presenting the mare without the notified blinds. Trotted roughly in the run home.
DRAGONS SUNRISE - checked and broke after 100 metres losing ground. Driver R Holmes was warned for using his whip free of the rein on one occasion in the run home.
HEAVENLY STRINGS - raced wide early stages. Trotted roughly throughout the run home and could not be pressured by driver C Thornley.
ROYAL DIEDRE - raced wide early stages.
NORDIC PRINCE - trotted roughly throughout the run home and was unable to be driven out by driver C Markham.
MENTALIST - raced wide early stages.
ELLA OF MOT - broke after 150 metres losing its chance. A final warning was placed on the racing record of the mare.
Race 2   CANTERBURY TROTTING OWNERS ASSN MOBILE PACE
OPAWA LOUIE - when questioned regarding the gelding's performance trainer/driver K Cameron explained the horse had become positioned further back than he anticipated and then been forced to improve very wide on the final bend so was not disappointed with the effort.
HUTASA - held up early stages of the run home.
KYRAN - cast a front shoe when racing wide in the early stages.
TREMENDOUS LOVER - broke at the start losing its chance and was retired from the race. Driver B Hope advised the colt had become stirred up after the false start.
PURE COURAGE - lay outwards in the run home.
SIR MONTY - raced wide from the 900 metres.
MIKIS SHINEING STAR - raced wide from the 1000 metres.
LIFECHANGINGEVENT - a false start was declared when LIFECHANGINGEVENT raced fiercely in the score up and was not able to be put in its correct position by driver J Young-Grant. Sent to the unruly position by the Starter for the re-start. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the gelding. Well back from the unruly position for the re-start. Placed on the unruly for future mobile starts.
ULTIMATE BIRD - hung outwards through the middle stages. Driver T Trathen was warned for using his whip free of the rein on one occasion in the run home.
ARS GRATIA ARTIS - held up throughout the run home.
Race 3   COUNTRY FEASTS PACE
There was a slight delay to the start due to the false start in the previous event.
CHARNUI - held up early stages of the run home.
WINEGUM - hung outwards on the final bend. Paced roughly and broke passing the 150 metres.
HERE'S HERBIE - lay inwards over the concluding stages. Driver C DeFilippi admitted using his whip free of the rein on one occasion in the run home and was fined $200 by the Adjudicative Committee.
FALCON'S MONARCH - underwent and passed a pre-race Veterinary examination after having not raced for a considerable period. Broke at the start and shifted inwards abruptly. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the gelding. Driver T Williams advised he would be recommending gear changes.
APACHE WARRIOR - broke at the start losing ground. Broke again passing the 200 metres.
MAPUA MISSIE - checked and broke at the start losing considerable ground.
WHITE STAR ORLANDO - broke at the start losing ground.
Race 4   VERMEULEN FAMILY FILLIES & MARES MOBILE PACE
STRAIGHT FLUSH - hung outwards and contacted MOSSDALE MAY and as a consequence broke hampering trailing runners approaching the crossing near the 1600 metres. Placed in restricted room near the 300 metres when an inside runner shifted ground outwards. Hung inwards throughout the run home.
ROLLWITHIT - raced wide early stages.
MOSSDALE MAY - lay inwards and made contact with STRAIGHT FLUSH near the 1600 metres. Compounded passing the 600 metres. When questioned regarding the performance driver B Hope advised the filly had to work too hard in the early stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly was suffering from muscle tie up. The connections advised they will have blood tests taken and Stewards will follow up the results in the coming days.
PEMBROOK'S PRINCESS - hampered near the 1600 metres.
RAKERO REBEL - raced wide early stages.
SARASOTA SUNSET - hampered and had to be steadied near the 1600 metres.
STELLAR ARDEN - hampered near the 1600 metres.
RACEY RACH - hampered near the 1600 metres. Raced roughly and hung inwards throughout the run home.
FERNLEIGH BLACKBIRD - checked and broke near the 1600 metres losing ground. Driver R Close was spoken to advisedly for the manner in which he shifted ground at the 300 metres placing an outside runner in restricted room.
ALL TOO WELL - hampered near the 1600 metres.
Stable representative B Hope advised Stewards on 23 December that blood tests taken from MOSSDALE MAY subsequent to its last start revealed no abnormalities. Mr Hope added that the stable had since made gear changes to the filly which trialed well at Rangiora yesterday and it would now be restricted to all weather tracks in the immediate future.
Race 5   PETER SMITH MEMORIAL TROT
BOURBON ON THE ROCKS - held up early stages of the run home. Driver J Versteeg was warned for using his whip free of the rein on one occasion in the run home. When questioned regarding the improved performance trainer/driver J Versteeg advised the gelding had been able to settle handier in the running and had appreciated the grass track and a recent gear change to blinds.
RACHMANINOV - fractious prior to the start causing a delay. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the gelding.
IDEAL INVASION - broke in the early stages losing ground. Raced fiercely in the middle stages. Authorisation of 4th placing was withheld until Stewards confirmed the gelding had complied with the Breaking Horses Regulation when in a break in the early stages.
ILLEGAL ALIEN - broke shortly after the start losing ground.
TAKE AFTER ME - broke rounding the first bend losing ground.
ZSAHARA - held up throughout the run home.
ALDEBARAN HEATHER - broke near the 500 metres losing its chance.
THIS TIME GAMBLE - hampered by a breaking runner in the early stages. Broke near the 2200 metres losing its chance and was retired from the race.
MAJESTIC ROSE - driver L Dobbs was spoken to advisedly for being late to arrive at the start area.
Race 6   TAGGART EARTHMOVING MOBILE PACE
SHEELASINLEAGUE - held up rounding the final bend.
MYRCELLA - the near side front hopple loop came adrift near the 1700 metres. Trainer M Purvis was issued a $100 Minor Infringement Notice for failing to affix this gear so as not to come adrift.
ROCKIN VA VA - raced wide early stages. Raced wide on the final bend.
PRODIGAL SON - held up early stages of the run home.
HUCKABEE - over-raced when being restrained in the early stages. Raced wide rounding the final bend.
GET IT ON - held up early and middle stages of the run home.
IT'S ME - raced wide from the 600 metres.
Race 7   KAIAPOI CLUB RACING SECTION MOBILE PACE
BELLE'S BOY - driver A Cameron was spoken to advisedly for using her whip with more than a wrist flicking motion in the early stages of the run home.
CHEAPCHEAP - raced wide early stages.
MY MATE BEN - trainer M Purvis was issued a $100 Minor Infringement Notice for presenting the gelding without the notified sliding blinds. Raced wide from the 1000 metres. Weakened final bend.
CLASSEY ROBIN - held up early stages of the run home.
SPICY GIRL BECQUI - broke in the score up however recovered to be in position at the start.
Race 8   FIVE PEAKS BREWERY HANDICAP PACE
GET OUTTA TOWN - broke at the start.
EL SIRRAR - broke at the start.
POCKET CALL - paced roughly under pressure on the final bend. Driver L Dobbs was warned for using his whip when out of contention.
TERRIER - driver R Close reported a sulky tyre deflated during the running.
DONEGAL CARRICKFIN - broke briefly at the start.
FROSTY RECEPTION - stood on the mark and was slow to begin losing considerable ground.
SOUTHERLY CHANGE - the required veterinary clearance was supplied. Weakened final bend.
Race 9   NEW WORLD RANGIORA SUMMER CUP (HANDICAP PACE)
RIVEERED - when questioned regarding the performance co-trainer/driver M Purdon advised he was disappointed with the effort and the gelding will be sent for a spell.
LULU LE MANS - broke at the start losing ground. Held up throughout the run home. Driver S Ottley reported she had not activated the removable deafeners as a result.
KISS THE GIRLS - broke at the start losing ground.
A BETTOR ACT - broke at the start losing ground.
CALLIE'S DELIGHT - broke at the start losing ground.
SAMHARA - when questioned regarding the performance driver J Cox advised he was disappointed with the performance and was unable to provide any explanation. Stewards will follow up with connections in the coming days.
HEZA SPORT - raced wide early stages. Struck the sulky wheel of the weakening CORRAVALLY STAR near the 400 metres after being shifted wider on the track when attempting to hold his position. Stewards will speak with driver C DeFilippi in the coming days regarding this.
Stewards spoke with co-trainer/driver C DeFilippi regarding the performance of HEZA SPORT subsequent to its last start. Mr DeFilippi advised that the race had not been run to suit with the gelding weakening over the concluding stages. He added that the horse would now be freshened prior to resuming. Mr DeFilippi was also spoken to advisedly for the manner he drove near the 400 metres and advised to exercise greater care when shifting ground.
Co-trainer M Purdon advised Stewards on 23 December that blood tests taken from SAMHARA after its disappointing performance last start failed to reveal any abnormalities. Mr Purdon added that the colt would be freshened prior to resuming.
Race 10   MORRISON'S SADDLERY & FEED MOBILE PACE
DENNIS DENUTO - held up early stages of the run home.
WILL HE ROCK - briefly locked wheels with PRECIOUS SARA leaving the final bend. Driver J Simpson reported he accidentally lost his whip at the start.
LUMINITE - raced wide early stages. Driver S Thornley advised he was unable to activate the removable deafeners due to the cord becoming entangled.
JUDGEMENT BAY - raced wide early stages.
THE TERRORFIER - held up early stages of the run home.
PRECIOUS SARA - briefly locked wheels with WILL HE ROCK leaving the final bend.
MAKWALA - over-raced middle stages. Ran off near the 400 metres despite the efforts of driver S Ottley and was distanced over the final stages. A warning was placed on the racing record of the gelding.
Race 11   NORTH CANTERBURY TROTTING HANDICAP TROT
GREENBANK BETTY - stood on the mark then broke at the start hampering trailing runners. Raced wide from the 900 metres.
MIKEMARO - when questioned regarding the improved performance trainer R Austin advised the horse had been unsuited by the wet track at Geraldine two starts ago before breaking at its most recent start. Mr Austin added that the gelding had been able to capitalize on a favourable run today.
SALLY LINDENNY - hampered at the start.
TEST THE BOUNDARIES - hampered at the start. Paced late in the run home.
REPEAT PAT - compounded passing the 600 metres and was distanced over the final stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a high heart rate and very slow recovery. Stewards will follow up with connections in the coming days.
BAXTER - raced without front shoes. Broke at the start. Over-raced middle stages.
MAJESTICMITE - shifted outwards when driver R Close was attempting to release the removable deafeners forcing DESBOIS wider on the track. Driver R Close admitted a charge under Rule 869(3)(b) in that he allowed his runner to shift up the track on the final bend and was fined $250 by the Adjudicative Committee.
Race 12   NEXT RANGIORA RACE DAY - NEW YEAR'S DAY MOBILE PACE
LILAC BECKY - held up final bend. Paced roughly in the run home.
DALNESS FIRST - held up final bend.
HELLO ADELE - trainer P Beveridge advised his mare has been served since last racing. Weakened final bend.
SKIDADDLE - broke in the score up and was out of position at the start. Placed on the unruly for future mobile starts. Raced wide early stages.
ZIA BROMAC - held up final bend.
STEPHS BOY - lay outwards in the run home.
TIMES ARE A CHANGIN - held up final bend and early and middle stages of the run home.
ACENTO - raced wide from the 600 metres.
Trainer J Harrington advised Stewards on 23 December that an endoscopic examination of ZIA BROMAC subsequent to the race revealed the filly was suffering from an upper respiratory infection and has since been treated.
