Pre-race blood testing was carried out. Race 11 was incorrectly printed in the on course race books to be run over 1950 metres instead of 2600 metres. Trainer/driver J Harrington was unable to attend the meeting due to illness and was replaced on his drive in Race 1 as per the summary below. Mr Harrington is required to supply a medical clearance before resuming driving. |

THE FIERY SPIRIT - displayed poor barrier manners causing a delay to the start. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the gelding. Broke briefly after 200 metres and had to be steadied then raced greenly for a distance. Broke again for a short distance near the 1100 metres and had to race three wide without cover thereafter. Again broke on the final bend losing further ground. Stood down to complete one satisfactory trial. | |
SUPERFAST WHIZZ - lay inwards rounding the final bend. When questioned regarding the performance driver J Cox advised his mare had been unsuited to the holding track conditions. | |

Stable representative B Hope advised Stewards on 23 December that blood tests taken from MOSSDALE MAY subsequent to its last start revealed no abnormalities. Mr Hope added that the stable had since made gear changes to the filly which trialed well at Rangiora yesterday and it would now be restricted to all weather tracks in the immediate future. |

Stewards spoke with co-trainer/driver C DeFilippi regarding the performance of HEZA SPORT subsequent to its last start. Mr DeFilippi advised that the race had not been run to suit with the gelding weakening over the concluding stages. He added that the horse would now be freshened prior to resuming. Mr DeFilippi was also spoken to advisedly for the manner he drove near the 400 metres and advised to exercise greater care when shifting ground. | |
