Race 1   WINTON NIGHT 'N DAY / SOUTHLAND VEHICLE SALES MOBILE PACE
BOBBY VINTON - raced wide in the early stages. Held up leaving the final bend and in the early stages of the run home. Crowded over the concluding stages and had to be steadied.
THE JAFA EXPRESS - over-raced throughout. Paced roughly and lay inwards briefly early in the run home.
FLEETING MAJOR - raced wide in the early stages and over-raced when being restrained to take cover. Weakened from the 1200 metres. When asked to comment on the performance junior driver K Tomlinson could offer no explanation. A post-race Veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormality. A warning was placed on the racing performance of the gelding.
IDEAL DANCE - weakened over the concluding stages.
BENJI - raced wide in the early stages.
CARRERA DANCE - raced four-wide from the 600 metres.
NORTHVIEW DANCE - weakened on the final bend. When asked to comment on the performance driver B Barclay expressed disappointment however could offer no explanation. Stewards will follow up the recovery of the gelding with trainer M Brown in the coming days.
BENDER - held up in the early and middle stages of the run home.
CAPTAIN STARLIGHT - hung inwards passing the 1200 metres. Lay inwards in the run home crowding an inside runner over the concluding stages.
TEDDY BAKER - paced roughly in the score-up and was back from the Unruly at the start. Weakened from the 1100 metres. When asked to comment on the performance junior driver T Nally could offer no explanation. A post-race Veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormality. A warning was placed on the racing performance of the gelding.
Trainer M Brown advised the Stewards on 24 December that following its disappointing performance NORTHVIEW DANCE has been sent for a spell.
Race 2   CARPET PLUS WILLY'S FLOORING MOBILE PACE
THE HORNET - raced wide rounding the first bend. Locked wheels with KAGEE VC near the 400 metres resulting in a trailing runner being checked.
FRANCO HUNTINGTON - raced wide rounding the first bend. Checked and broke passing the 400 metres.
FOUR STARZZZ SHIRAZ - out of position at the start. Driver D O'Connell was issued with a warning.
THE NIGHT WATCHMAN - hung inwards through the middle stages and again on the final bend.
KAGEE VC - lay outwards rounding the final bend causing driver D Anderson some difficulty and locked wheels with THE HORNET near the 400 metres resulting in a trailing runner being checked.
Race 3   MCNEILL'S POULTRY FARM/MCC SYND FILLIES & MARES MOBILE PACE
LA MOTH - briefly locked wheels with HIT THE LIGHTS on the final bend and as a result made contact with the sulky wheel of STUNIN STAR.
HUNTING WEIGHT - broke briefly in the early stages of the score-up. Broke again passing the 300 metres with junior driver T Larsen dropping his foot from the sulky footrest when restraining his runner. Mr Larsen (assisted by K Larsen) was shown a replay and reminded of his obligations to ensure he drives with his feet in the sulky footrests throughout.
JOYFULDOLLY - briefly hampered by a breaking runner near the 300 metres. Lay inwards throughout the run home.
STUNIN STAR - weakened from the 500 metres. Driver R Austin reported both sulky tyres had punctured during the running.
YOU SAID IT - connections advised this mare would be racing in season. A clip detached resulting in the breast plate hanging loose during the running. When spoken to regarding the performance of the favoured runner driver B Orange advised he was disappointed with the effort of the filly.
HIT THE LIGHTS - lay outwards and briefly locked wheels with LA MOTH on the final bend.
CELTIC ABBEY - held up on the final bend. When asked to comment on the perceived improved performance trainer M Williams advised the mare had been unlucky in its previous starts and had benefitted from receiving recent chiropractic treatment.
Race 4   HIGHWAY SERVICES INVERCARGILL LTD MOBILE PACE
MR MCLAREN - hung inwards and struck a track marker leaving the first bend. Held up by a weakening runner on the final bend.
ARCHAIC LUSTRE - lay inwards and struck a track marker when weakening on the final bend.
BRIGADIERS SON - hung inwards when racing wide into the first bend. Held up on the final bend.
UNSURPASSABLE - raced wide with cover from the 1200 metres.
ROCK N DASH - raced wide without cover from the 1200 metres. Weakened leaving the final bend.
NIKKI NOTO - held up on the final bend and in the early stages of the run home.
PORT AU PRINCE - held up on the final bend and in the early stages of the run home.
WITH A BANG - held up on the final bend.
Race 5   BETAVET GOLD CHIP FINAL (HANDICAP TROT)
HOT TO TROT (S Ottley) broke racing into the first bend and locked sulky wheels with the trailing PORT PEGASUS (S O'Reilly) dislodging both drivers from their respective sulkies. PORT PEGASUS then escaped driverless for some distance before being recaptured. Stewards stopped the race after 400 metres pursuant to Rule 211(A)(1) due to safety concerns. As the field had only gone a short distance the race was eligible to be re-run with all horses undergoing Veterinary examinations and being cleared to start in the re-run except PORT PEGASUS which was declared a late scratching on Veterinary advice when found to have minor abrasions to the right hind leg. Miss Ottley and Miss O'Reilly were examined by the on course Paramedics and cleared of any injury.
PYRAMID MYSTIC - broke at the start losing ground. Authorisation of the promoted 3rd placing was withheld until the Stewards were satisfied the filly had complied with the Breaking Horses Regulation when breaking at the start.
HOT TO TROT - broke at the start losing all chance.
PORT PEGASUS - late scratching on Veterinary advice at 3.07pm.
EMMA LOUISE - over-raced passing the 1300 metres when being restrained to take a trail.
SHEZA GIFT - hung outwards and shifted up the track when attempting to gain the lead near the 1500 metres and again in the run home. Broke near the 45 metres and continued in a break across the finish line when lapped on by EMMA LOUISE and PYRAMID MYSTIC. Stewards lodged a Protest under Rule 870(5) against 1st placing being awarded alleging the filly was lapped on by the 2nd placed EMMA LOUISE and the 3rd placed PYRAMID MYSTIC. After viewing the replays, the photo finish and hearing evidence from the Stewards and driver N Williamson, the Adjudicative Committee upheld the Protest and relegated SHEZA GIFT to 3rd placing. Driver N Williamson reported he did not release the removable deafeners.
DENN NEE'S SISTER - hampered by a breaking runner shortly after the start and broke in consequence. Weakened from the 400 metres.
PAT THE MONKEY - broke in the early stages. Weakened on the final bend. Junior driver K Tomlinson (assisted by B Williamson) admitted a breach of 858(1)(a) in that she delayed the start when initially positioning her runner in the incorrect barrier position and then having to shift to her horse to her allocated position. After viewing the films and hearing penalty submissions the Adjudicative Committee imposed a fine of $200.
SVELT - cleared from the Unruly for future standing start engagements.
Stewards extended leniency with regards to horse penalties given the delay to the start.
Race 6   LATHER UP SPEED SERIES FILLIES & MARES MOBILE PACE
BIZZIE LOU - held up for the majority of the run home.
CASTER SEMENYA - over-raced in the middle stages.
SHOW ME HEAVEN - driver T Williams reported he did not release the removable deafeners due to having the field covered.
WATTLEBANK STAR - when spoken to regarding the performance trainer/driver K Barclay expressed disappointment in the effort with a post-race Veterinary examination revealing the filly to have a high heart rate and slow recovery. Mrs Barclay advised she would have blood tests conducted in the coming days and undertook to notify Stewards of the results.
ESPECIAL - raced wide in the early stages until reaching the parked position near the 900 metres.
BETTER'S TART - held up on the final bend and in the early and middle stages of the run home.
MIGHT BE ME - connections advised this mare had been served since last racing.
Connections advised on 23 December that ESPECIAL will be racing in foal.
Trainer K Barclay advised the Stewards on 24 December that blood tests conducted on WATTLEBANK STAR had revealed signs of muscle tie-up with the filly having been treated accordingly.
Race 7   TRANSPORT SERVICES LTD HANDICAP TROT
DEM BONES DEM BONES - broke racing into the first bend hampering a trailing runner.
SIOUX PRINCESS - broke at the start losing all chance. A final warning was placed on the barrier record of the mare.
ONE TWO MENNY - reared as the start was effected.
MISS CRAZED - hampered and broke racing into the first bend.
SPRINGBANK MASON - trainer P Williamson was issued with a $100 Minor Infringement Notice when presenting this gelding with blinds which were not notified. The blinds were subsequently removed prior to the start. Trotted roughly on the final bend and in the run home with driver B Williamson reporting he did not release the removable deafeners in consequence.
ANDY HALL - a hind bandage came adrift during the running. Trainer N Williamson was issued with a $100 Minor Infringement Notice.
Race 8   OTAUTAU FOUR SQUARE SUPERMARKET WAIRIO CUP (HCP PACE)
I'MALLABOUTTHEBASE - broke in the early stages.
KERRI MAGUIRE - held up in the early stages of the run home.
GET UP N DANCE - when asked to comment on the performance trainer/driver N Williamson expressed disappointment however could offer no explanation. A post-race Veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have a high heart rate and slow recovery. Mr Williamson will be contacted in the coming days relative to the horse's progress subsequent to the event.
ART COURAGE - over-raced in the middle stages.
MEMPHIS TENNESSEE - trainer B Gray was issued with a warning for presenting this gelding to race without the notified blinds. Broke at the start losing all chance. Following the running of this event driver J Morrison reported the removable deafeners cord had become entangled around a hopple carrier prior to the start with this gear still being corrected by a Starter's Assistant when the barrier strands were released. The All Clear was subsequently delayed until the Stewards had viewed the replays and were satisfied the gelding had been denied a fair start. Acting under Rule 213(1)(j) the gelding was declared a non-runner.
Trainer N Williamson advised the Stewards on 24 December that a Veterinary examination of GET UP N DANCE revealed the gelding to be showing signs of muscle tie-up and had been treated accordingly. Mr Williamson further advised GET UP N DANCE had been working well since in the lead up to a possible start at Gore on 27 December.

TAXMAN - over-raced in the early and middle stages.
