Race Comments

Race 1   JOHNNIE WALKER (AMATEUR DRIVERS) MOBILE PACE
JEREMY WELLS - held up final turn.
DAGGY LAMB - raced wide in the early stages.
MOODY RIVER - driver A Fitzgerald was questioned regarding the manner in which he drove on the first bend as to whether he could have made more of an effort to take up the position following MARK DUNNETT which would have prevented stablemate BELLE'S BOY from shifting inwards from a three wide position. Mr Fitzgerald advised the gelding had been consistently over-racing in recent starts so was reluctant to apply any significant pressure to his horse. Mr Fitzgerald added that due to the early speed he felt he had lost any right to that position and that if he had pushed forward it was likely he would have been shifted to the fence where he did not want to be positioned. Stewards noted his explanation.
FLAMBOYANT - raced wide throughout. When questioned in relation to the manner in which she drove during the middle stages driver S Blake stated that after having been caught wide early she had been unsure whether the position outside the leader, which was held by DAGGY LAMB, would be available so elected not to improve forward until entering the back straight as she was mindful that her gelding had over-raced in recent starts. Ms Blake's explanation was noted however she was advised that she would be expected to be more decisive given similar circumstances in future.
VON ART - raced wide in the early stages. Shifted outwards rounding the home turn. Driver B White was warned to make a greater effort to take the necessary corrective action given similar circumstances in future.
MARK DUNNETT - underwent and passed a pre-race Veterinary examination after competing at the Geraldine TC meeting yesterday. Out of position at the candy pole. Driver C Negus was issued with a warning. Held up final bend and in the early stages of the run home.
BELLE'S BOY - slow to score up and was out of position at the candy pole. Driver S Murtha was issued with a warning.

CHARNUI - held up throughout the run home. Driver A Lethaby reported she had not activated the sliding blinds as a result.
ALI X - shifted to a three wide position near the 1500 metres by driver C Thornley after over-racing and becoming awkwardly placed close to the sulky of CHARNUI simultaneous to an easing of the pace in the running line. This mare was not able to regain that position due to BONO BROWN pulling its way forward despite the efforts of driver K Tomlinson.
NORDY STAR - broke briefly at the start. Hampered after 100 metres.
CRYSTAL DAYTOM - held up early and middle stages of the run home. When questioned as to whether it had been an option to shift out three wide prior to being covered racing down the back straight the final time, driver R Close advised his runner had worked harder, and for longer, than he had anticipated in the early stages so was reluctant to improve outwards at this time on a horse which was best suited to being driven with cover.
ARS GRATIA ARTIS - broke briefly after 100 metres and again for a short distance racing into the first bend. Over-raced middle stages. Broke again approaching the 200 metres. A warning was placed on the gelding's racing record.

MAJOR PURCHASE - held up throughout the run home. Driver J Cox reported that as a result he had not released the gelding's deafeners.
THE COBBLER - hung outwards leaving the final bend when under pressure. Continued to lay outwards when weakening in the run home. Notwithstanding this driver G O'Reilly was cautioned and advised that he would be expected to take greater corrective action given similar circumstances in future.
MELANDO CHIEF - hampered and had to be steadied after 150 metres. Raced wide from the 1300 metres. Driver K Cameron was warned for using his whip with more than a wrist flicking motion in the run home.
