PLUTONIUM LADY - weakened final bend. Junior Driver C Dalgety was issued with a warning for his lack of control on the final bend when allowing this mare to strike and dislodge several track markers after he released the removable deafeners resulting in trailing runners being hampered. Stewards questioned Mr Dalgety regarding the tactics he adopted during the running. He advised that his intention had been to restrain at the start and race with cover however the mare had commenced to race fiercely in the score-up resulting in him having to go forward at the start. Mr Dalgety added that he had been forced to work harder than anticipated in the early stages to obtain the lead before being able to steady the horse and gain some respite. Mr Dalgety further added he had been pressured from the 900 metres by an outside runner with the effort taking its toll on the mare being able to finish the race off in a competitive fashion. Mr Dalgety was of the opinion the PLUTONIUM LADY may not have backed up from its previous start last Sunday and he was disappointed with the effort. Trainer M Jones will be contacted in the coming days regarding the recovery of the mare.
Trainer M Jones advised Stewards on 21 October that PLUTONIUM LADY has recovered well following her run at Wairio last week and will continue with its current preparation.
