MIGHTY REACTOR - held up final bend by a weakening runner. Stewards questioned driver S Tomlinson regarding her decision not to improve wider on the track on the final bend when an opportunity existed. Miss Tomlinson explained that near the 500 metres she felt that LIFE OF ART which she had been trailing was still travelling well and because her horse had been hanging inwards and pacing roughly through the middle stages, she had been reluctant to improve wider at this time and elected to remain in the one wide line. Miss Tomlinson further explained that approaching the 400 metres LIFE OF ART had weakened rapidly resulting in her runner which had been racing keenly becoming awkwardly positioned close to the sulky of this horse resulting in her being unable to shift ground outwards in a safe manner before being covered by the improving BOOM. Miss Tomlinson added that her horse had then given her considerable difficulty in shifting wider on the track in the early stages of the run home resulting in her losing further momentum. After considering the matter, Stewards were satisfied Miss Tomlinson's explanation was not unreasonable in the circumstances and took the matter no further.
