Race 3 - HARRISON BLOY (JUNIOR DRIVERS) PACE |
Junior driver D Keast (EASTWOOD ISABELLA) who declined the assistance of a Senior driver, admitted driving carelessly near the 900 metres when allowing his horse to strike the sulky wheel of ART COLLECTOR causing his own horse to break with trailing runners also being checked. After hearing submissions on penalty the Adjudicative Committee imposed a fine of $350. Mr Keast was also warned for using his whip free of the rein on one occasion in the home straight. |

Trainer J Cox advised Stewards on 24 September that LECONTE as well as MAYBE (Race 7) and SPORTSCAM (Race 8) underwent blood tests today which revealed that all three horses were suffering from high stress levels and dehydration and would now be treated accordingly. |

THE ARTFUL DODGER - out of position at the start despite the efforts of driver A Cameron. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the gelding. Hung inwards in the run home before breaking near the 100 metres. A post-race veterinary and endoscopic examination confirmed the gelding not to be a bleeder after returning to the stabling area with a small amount of blood present in the right nostril. In addition to this the horse was cleared of any lameness. Stewards will follow up the recovery of the gelding with trainer B Hill in the coming days. | |
MIGHTY REACTOR - trainer B Mowbray was issued with a warning for presenting the gelding without the notified blinds. Held up for clear racing room in the run home. Driver M Williamson reported the removable deafeners were not activated in consequence. | |

A post-race veterinary and endoscopic examination revealed a slow recovery and discharge in the trachea with the Veterinarian recommending treatment with antibiotics. Stewards will follow up the recovery of the filly with trainer T Yesberg in the coming days. | |

STOKED TO HAVER - trainer C Kennedy advised Stewards on 7 October that the filly has been treated for a respiratory infection since last racing. | |

FLIGHT PLAN - weakened final bend. When spoken to regarding the performance driver T Williams advised he was disappointed with the effort and could offer no explanation. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be making abnormal respiratory noises on return to the stabling area following the race. The connections advised that the filly will be examined in the coming days by their Veterinarian and would be sent for a spell before resuming. | |

INSTANT DELIGHT - Stewards questioned driver S Boyd as to whether he could have made a greater effort to maintain his position behind HARBOUR QUEEN approaching the first bend after WANNA PLAY WITH ME was able to improve inwards ahead of INSTANT DELIGHT. Mr Boyd advised it had been his intention to race in a forward position however after being crossed by two runners at the start his filly had commenced to trot roughly and he was reluctant to place her under any pressure as he felt she may have broken. After hearing from Mr Boyd, Stewards took the matter no further. Mr Boyd was also spoken to advisedly to ensure he breaks up his use of the whip with alternative actions in the run home. | |
FLYIN SID - trainer T Chmiel was issued a $100 Minor Infringement Notice for presenting the gelding to race without the notified half hopples and pacifier. Broke in the score up and was out of position at the start. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the gelding. Placed on the unruly for future mobile starts at the trainer's request. EMDEEGEE - trotted roughly on various occasions during the running. Hung inwards and broke passing the 900 metres after striking several track markers hampering trailing runners. The undercheck clip on the gelding detached from the girth passing the 1900 metres and hung loose for the remainder of the race. After inspecting the gear trainer D Simpson was found not to be at fault with Stewards taking the matter no further. | |
ONE OVER ALL - over-raced middle stages. | |
PUZZLED - Stewards investigated a possible breach of the Push Out Rule near the 1400 metres after the improving WOODSTONE was obliged to race wider on the track. After viewing the replays it was established that PUZZLED had shifted outwards prior to WOODSTONE reaching its sulky wheel and accordingly no further action was deemed necessary. Broke passing the 800 metres after striking the sulky wheel of ESCARGO and lost ground. Stewards questioned junior driver K Newman (assisted by G Smith) regarding this, after which it was established that Mr Newman had shifted his runner wider on the track approaching the 850 metres to avoid crowding an inside runner which had shifted outwards from behind the breaking EMDEEGEE however PUZZLED had commenced to race keenly and became awkwardly placed close to the sulky of ESCARGO despite Mr Newman's efforts. After considering the matter, Stewards were satisfied Mr Newman was not fully responsible for this incident and took the matter no further other than to remind him to exercise greater care when in similar circumstances. | |

During the course of the hearing Mr Chmiel elected to change his plea and admit the charge. Mr Williams added the horse had appreciated returning to its preferred racing style of leading. | |

After reviewing the replays it was established that ANGUS had commenced its outwards shift prior to ALL TOGETHER NOW reaching its sulky wheel and no further action was deemed necessary. When spoken to regarding the performance trainer/driver S Boyd reported the gelding had over-raced during the running and had worked hard in the middle stages to improve its position which had contributed to the overall performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery. |
