ROYAL JESTER - held up by a weakening runner final bend. Had to be steadied over the final stages when placed in restricted room. Driver A Edge was questioned regarding his decision not to shift outwards near the 600 metres but instead allow himself to be covered by the improving three wide line. Mr Edge explained that he believed the parked runner, FLAMBOYANT (S Blake), to be travelling well at this time as Ms Blake had not had to encourage the horse at this stage. He added that he had been reluctant to improve wide this far from home however regretted that decision once FLAMBOYANT commenced to weaken soon after.
