Race 1   BROWN PUB METHVEN "PUNTER OF THE YEAR" PACE
IRON WOMAN - broke at the start. Driver K Tomlinson was spoken to for using her whip free of the rein.
ARIZONAWILDCAT - broke at the start.
MARK DUNNETT - broke at the start. When spoken to regarding the gelding's performance driver J Young-Grant said the horse races best with cover and was unable to improve its position due to the three wide line not progressing as she expected. Trainer B Negus added consideration would be given to restricting the gelding's future racing to all weather tracks.
KINGSDOWN ATOM - driver C DeFilippi admitted using his whip free of the rein and with more than a wrist only flicking motion and was fined $200 by the JCA.
KEY REACTOR - broke at the start. Over-raced throughout.
SHARP LOU - tangled away. Broke after 150 metres.
JUSTACE - hampered at the start.
GOING FOR GOLD - hampered at the start and broke. When questioned regarding the performance, trainer G Payne advised he felt the gelding had not backed up from its previous race last week at Timaru.

MONARO MAKO - paced shortly after the start having to be broken up and losing its chance.
ROSIE'S SON - fractious prior to the start and broke as the tapes were released losing its chance. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the gelding. Placed on the unruly for standing starts at the request of trainer K Cox.
SPOT THE GAMBLE - broke rounding the first bend.
BELLA BUTTON - broke after 150 metres losing all chance.
KENNY KEKO - broke shortly after the start.
QUEEN OF STRATHFIELD - held up early stages of the run home. Lay outwards once obtaining clear running in the home straight.
SALVO - driver J Harrington was spoken to for using his whip with more than a wrist flicking motion.
EILISH HALL - trotted roughly for a distance passing the 800 metres. Broke briefly near the 400 metres. Continued to trot roughly in the home straight.
SHIFFTY - trainer G Smith was warned for presenting the gelding to race without the notified pacifier.
ARISTOCRAT - held up leaving the final bend and in the early stages of the run home. Driver K Barron was spoken to for using his whip free of the rein.
THIS TIME GAMBLE - trotted roughly rounding the first bend.
ILSAS SON - driver R Anderson was warned for using his whip free of the rein and with more than a wrist flicking motion.
GOOSE HEALY - slow to begin and broke after 100 metres losing all chance. Driver N Burton advised the gelding cast a hind shoe with 200 metres to run.
Trainer J Withell advised Stewards on 16 October that after having bloods taken from GOOSE HEALY, the horse was found to have a viral infection which has been treated.
Race 3   LIQUORLAND TINWALD MOBILE PACE
REGGIE GOLIGHTLY - driver G O'Reilly reported he sustained a punctured sulky tyre during the running and that the gelding also cast a shoe.
CHEAPCHEAP - raced wide around the first bend.
JEREMY WELLS - raced wide middle stages.
CARRERA DANCE - broke racing into the first bend. Hung inwards through the middle stages. Paced roughly final bend.
SILENT SHADOW - held up early and middle stages of the run home. Driver L O'Reilly was spoken to regarding using his whip with more than a wrist flicking motion.
PRESIDENT PAT - held up early stages of the run home.
PLAY BY EAR - over-raced middle stages.
WILL HE ROCK - slow to leave the pre-race circle and was out of position at the start. A warning was placed on the gelding's barrier record. Over-raced middle stages. Hung inwards through the middle stages and paced roughly before weakening near the 700 metres. Driver J Simpson was spoken to regarding being out of position at the start and warned to make a better effort to maintain the correct position behind the mobile in future. Mr Simpson was also advised to take more care after his horse became awkwardly positioned behind DALNESS FIRST near the 1300 metres causing it to pace roughly. Mr Simpson said he would be considering making gear changes for the gelding's future races.
Race 4   METHVEN PANEL & PAINT PACE
The start was delayed one minute at the request of Race Day Control.
BROMAC HYPE - paced roughly racing into the first bend. Held up early stages of the run home.
TALIESIN - broke at the start with the overcheck coming off. Hampered near the 900 metres after an easing of the pace.
WESTAR LAD - held up throughout the run home.
FEELIN BETTOR - paced roughly racing into the first bend. Held up early and middle stages of the run home.
HARRISON - broke at the start. Hampered near the 900 metres after an easing of the pace. Trainer/driver J Morrison advised the horse would be restricted to mobile starts in the immediate future.
VINTAGE GOLD - driver J Versteeg was spoken to regarding using his whip free of the rein.
CRYSTAL DAYTOM - driver C Markham was spoken to regarding breaking up his use of the whip with alternative actions.
DELIGHTFUL FLAME - slow to begin. Hampered near the 900 metres after an easing of the pace.
DOCTOR STEVE - had difficulty obtaining clear racing room in the home straight.
Race 5   HJ HARRISON MEMORIAL (JUNIOR DRIVERS) MOBILE PACE
FOUR STARZZZ SHIRAZ - broke in the score up at the first attempt at a start. Paced roughly early stages of the run home.
REINIMIN PATRON - broke in the score up causing interference to runner on the second line with a false start being declared. A warning was placed on the gelding's barrier record. Driver B Hope elected to remain in his barrier position for the re-start. Weakened final bend. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery.
BAILEYS DIAMOND - out of position at the start despite the efforts of driver E Barron.
PLAYA VISTA - out of position at the start despite the efforts of driver S Thornley.
LAVER - raced wide early stages.
ESSENCE OF EASTON - hampered by a weakening runner on the final bend.
ARDEN'S REALITY - held up final bend.
CRANBOURNE - checked in the score up with a false start being declared. Raced wide middle stages.
GLACIER COASTER - raced wide early stages. Over-raced near the 1300 metres when being restrained to obtain cover. Broke near the 400 metres. Driver A Mugford reported the mare had been striking her sulky discs.
BETTER FLY - raced wide early stages. Driver C Smith was spoken to regarding his decision not to shift down into the passing lane near the 250 metres but instead shift to the outside of DHAULAGIRI. Mr Smith explained that in his view the leader DHAULAGIRI was under pressure in the home straight and that CRANBOURNE which was racing to the outside of that horse was travelling better approaching the 250m. He felt that to assist the momentum of BETTER FLY he shifted wider on the track to maintain that momentum rather than wait for the passing lane. Stewards noted Mr Smith's comments. Mr Smith was also spoken to regarding using his whip free of the rein and with more than a wrist flicking motion.
Trainer R Winter advised Stewards on 19 October that PLAYA VISTA will be racing in foal.
Race 6   "WHAT THE HILL" TROT BRED FILLIES & MARES HANDICAP TROT
SONOMA TYRON - broke near the 450 metres.
BLACK JACKET - broke at the start.
APPEARANCE - held up early stages of the run home. Driver J Smith was spoken to regarding using his whip with more than a wrist flicking motion.
MADAM SASS - broke at the start losing all chance. A warning was placed on the mare's barrier record.
FANNY HILL - trainer P Williamson was issued a warning for not having the correct colours available.
MISSY MOO - driver G Smith was warned for being late onto the track.

Race 7   RAKAIA SEED CLEANING MOBILE PACE
REFINE - paced roughly in the score up and was out of position at the start despite the efforts of driver C Thornley. Weakened final bend.
PRO SURFER - held up final bend by a weakening runner. When questioned regarding the performance, driver J Dunn advised the gelding had become awkwardly placed inside tiring runners and had to improve very wide on the final bend. He added that he was pleased with the effort.
BONNIE BOY - over-raced middle stages. Weakened final bend.
KRYSTAL DELIGHT - hung inwards on the final bend striking pylons.
FIXED ODDS - raced wide throughout. Weakened from the 700 metres. Driver P Davis was spoken to regarding using his whip free of the rein.
BEEN TO JENNY'S - raced wide early stages.
Race 8   STAPLES & KIDD PACE
DUASTAR - broke at the start. Hampered by a breaking runner shortly after the start. Had difficulty obtaining clear racing room throughout the home straight.
UNICO GEM - broke at the start.
JUST N AWE - held up final bend.
SISTER'S DELIGHT - broke at the start. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the mare. Over-raced middle stages.
NO NUKES SKIPPER - broke at the start. Broke again near the 450 metres.
CLASSY KID - shifted out on the first bend and forced BUCKSKIN to race wider on the track. Driver A Lethaby admitted a breach of the Push Out Rule and the JCA imposed a fine of $200. Held up early stages of the run home.

Race 9   ALABAR METHVEN CUP (HANDICAP PACE)
DADNDAVE - broke at the start. Broke again after 200 metres. Stood down to complete one satisfactory trial. Driver T Trathen was spoken to for using his whip with more than a wrist flicking motion.
HEISENBERG - broke at the start.
WILD EXCUSE - driver G Smith was spoken to for using his whip with more than a wrist flicking motion.
TANGO TARA - paced roughly in the home straight. Driver J Curtin was spoken to for using his whip with more than a wrist flicking motion.
A BETTOR ACT - broke at the start losing considerable ground. Hung inwards on the bend near the 1100 metres striking several pylons.
STARS TONIGHT - paced roughly near the 800 metres and again in the home straight.
HOMEBUSH LAD - driver B Hope was spoken to for using his whip with more than a wrist flicking motion.
SPANKEM - driver N Rasmussen was spoken to regarding allowing her gelding to start wider than barrier one off 30 metres. Ms Rasmussen was also spoken to for using her whip with more than a wrist flicking motion.
SELF ASSURED - driver M Purdon was spoken to for using his whip with more than a wrist flicking motion. Mr Purdon was also advised to ensure he drives his runner out fully to the finish of the race.

TAKE AFTER ME - broke at the start losing all chance and was retired from the event. A Request for a Ruling was lodged with the JCA after driver G Smith believed he had been denied a fair start. After hearing from all parties and viewing the films, the JCA declared TAKE AFTER ME to be a runner.
MIKEMARO - fractious prior to the start.
FRANCO JOSIAH - broke after 150 metres.
SUNNY BILL - broke shortly after the start. Weakened final bend.
DD'S SUPER STUART - broke shortly after the start. Broke again near the 800 metres.
