DOUBLE UP - driver B Mangos was spoken to advisedly regarding using his whip free of the rein and with more than a wrist only flicking motion early in the run home. | |
ADIEU FLIRT - lay out early in the run home and was reluctant to shift down to attempt to utilise the passing lane. A Protest was lodged against this runner's 3rd placing on grounds of causing interference to SHES NO LADY (5th place) over the final stages of the run home when shifting down into the passing lane. After hearing the relative evidence and viewing the replays the JCA dismissed the Protest. Driver J Abernethy admitted a charge under Rule 869(7A)(c) in that he shifted his mare inwards in the run home and forced SHES NO LADY to race over track markers. The JCA imposed a fine of $250. | |

Broke near the 1750 metres after contacting the sulky of RICHMOND TIGER checking several trailing runners. Driver C Jamieson admitted a charge under Rule 869(3)(b) on the grounds that he drove carelessly in this incident. The JCA imposed a fine of $200. Checked and broke near the 750 metres when there was an easing of the pace and lost ground before settling. Weakened final stages. | |
ALTA MADEIRA - inconvenienced briefly near the 1700 metres when there was an easing of the pace. | |
MIA RAGAZZA - raced keenly approaching the 1700m and had to steadied resulting in an easing of the pace on the marker line. Had to be restrained off the back of BETTOR LISTEN near the 750 metres inconveniencing trailing runners. | |

A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormality. A warning was placed on the gelding's racing manners. Driver Scott Phelan was cautioned for the manner in which he shifted ground inwards entering the first turn which resulted in SHEZADEAL being momentarily tightened. | |

AMERICAN DEALER - restrained early and raced at the rear throughout before running on in the home straight to finish in 5th place beaten 3.7 lengths. When questioned regarding the tactics he adopted driver D Butcher stated that tonight's race was up in class against older horses and that he had little option other than to restrain to the rear early when unable to secure a position in the one out running line. Mr Butcher further stated that he had not received a trail into the race as he had hoped and that the tempo increased markedly from the 600 metres so he felt he would not have been able to make up ground three wide on the final bend and believed his best option was to save the colt for a final run in the home straight. Mr Butcher's comments were duly noted. | |

ULTIMATE STRIDE - shifted out rounding the final turn. Lay in early in the run home and shifted down into the passing lane with Driver J Dickie then taking corrective action when MIDNIGHT DASH improved to his inside. Authorisation of this runner's 3rd placing was withheld until driver M McKendry (MIDNIGHT DASH - 4th place) confirmed that his chances had not been affected. Mr Dickie was subsequently warned to take immediate corrective action to remove his runner from the passing lane given similar circumstances in the future. | |
ONE MAJIC KENNY - over-raced during the score up with driver P Ferguson electing to remain on the back of ULTIMATE STRIDE as he felt that otherwise his gelding would have pulled its way forward of its correct Unruly position. Stewards accepted Mr Ferguson's explanation given the circumstances and exercised discretion by not taking the matter any further. |

TRIPLE EIGHT - raced at the rear throughout and failed to run on over the final stages. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormality. When questioned regarding the performance driver D Butcher could offer no explanation for the disappointing run. Co-trainer S Telfer advised that he would have blood taken from the gelding and Stewards will follow up regarding the results in the coming days. | |

TRIPLE EIGHT - Co trainer S Telfer advised that blood test taken showed the gelding to be unwell, resulting in it racing below its best and that TRIPLE EIGHT has since been under veterinary care. Mr Telfer advised that the gelding would be taken back to the trials before resuming. |

When questioned regarding the performance driver D Butcher confirmed that the over-racing had taken its toll. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormality. |
