Race Comments

Race 1   LONESTAR AP OPEN NOW MOBILE PACE
FORTUNE SMILES - driver B Hadley was charged with careless driving in that it was alleged he drove carelessly by allowing the mare to shift ground outwards when in the lead from inside the 800 metres to a three wide position approaching the 550 metres, which provided the opportunity for the following EXPRESS PLAY to improve to take its position to the inside. The charge under 869(3)(b) was admitted and the JCA imposed a $250 fine and suspended his Amateur Horseman's licence upto and including the 29th July (2 days).

KUYOMI - used early to obtain a trailing position behind the leader, held up rounding the final turn and only battled over the run home to finishing 6th 7.8 lengths in arrears of the winner. When questioned driver J Dickie explained the filly was travelling well with 600 metres to run but when asked for an effort entering the home straight had nothing to offer and felt that the run was too bad to be true. A post race Veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormality. Stewards will follow up with Mr Dickie regarding the filly's recovery in the coming days.
SPIRIT OF TREES - paced roughly when outside the leader in the middle stages.
NOELA'S DELIGHT - weakened quickly inside final 300 metres finishing well back. A post race Veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormality.
SPIRITED BELLE - over-raced when being restrained off the back of SANTA MARIA passing the 1600 metres.
Co-Trainer John Dickie advised Stewards on 22 July that KUYOMI is being treated for muscle tie-up following its disappointing performance last week with this necessitating its scratching from this week's engagement.
Race 3   GARRARDS HORSE & HOUND PUKEKOHE TROT (STAND)
MAJESTIC HARRY - an information was lodged alleging that driver M Teaz was in breach of Rule 869(2) and Whip Regs (b) in that she used her whip on more occasions than permitted. The matter was adjourned with a hearing to be set down by the JCA at a future date.

CREDIT MASTER - raced three back on the outer from the 1000 metres but failed to make up much ground over the final stages to finish in 6th place beaten 8.1 lengths. When questioned regarding the performance Co-trainer A Neal advised that the gelding had pulled up well and that he could only attribute the run to the 45 metre handicap.
