General

General
Pre-race blood testing was carried out.

Trainer P Nairn contacted Stewards this afternoon to advise that HABIBI INTA had developed hive like symptoms over his body. Mr Nairn said the horse had been lightly worked this morning and appeared well and to be taking no ill effect from the condition. A Veterinary examination was undertaken which cleared the horse to start.

The Auckland TC have undertaken testing on the Standing Standing start mechanisms which failed on two occasions prior to the start of Race two on the 3rd of December. A mechanical fault was detected by an electrician and rectified with all subsequent testing being completed successfully.

Race 7 - SMITH & PARTNERS LAWYERS IDOM PACING CHAMPS H4 (MOBILE PACE)
Stewards questioned M Purdon, as he driver of CRUZ BROMAC, regarding his decision to surrender the parked position near the 550 metres to the improving ULTIMATE SNIPER. Mr Purdon explained that CRUZ BROMAC, from barrier 8, had been caught three-wide for the opening 900 metres and for a significant period of that distance without cover. He said that he had to work harder than anticipated to wrest the position outside of the leader from THE DEVILS OWN and had been hoping that at this time may have been able to let the race tempo slow sufficiently to allow his runner a brief respite. Mr Purdon said that when he attempted to do this ULTIMATE SNIPER attacked hard and in his opinion was intent on sprinting from that stage, something which he was reluctant to do. He added that had it been any other runner in this field he would not have relinquished his position but because he currently rated ULTIMATE SNIPER a superior racehorse, decided to relent. Mr Purdon further added that at this time, and until early in the run home, he believed his runner to be under pressure and struggling to maintain the position behind ULTIMATE SNIPER and that the finishing margin between the two runners had only been what it was because the winner had eased over the final stages. After considering his reasoning and having made further inquiries Stewards deemed that the reasons he provided were not unreasonable and so took the matter no further than to note his comments.
