Race Comments

Race 1   TURF SOLUTIONS/GLENWILLOW FEEDS (AMATEUR DRIVER) MOBILE PACE
FRANCO SHERBORNE - crowded racing into the first bend with driver S Blake reporting she had sustained a punctured sulky tyre at this time. Hampered by a weakening runner near the 500 metres.
BAKER CREEK - over-raced through the middle stages. Hampered by a weakening runner near the 500 metres.
MY NIKAYLA - out of position at the start. A final warning was placed on the mare's barrier record. Trainer D Paterson advised it was his intention to restrict the horse to standing start races and if it was to start in a mobile, it was unlikely to be in an Amateur race.
EJA PATRON - weakened from the 500 metres. Driver D Stapleton reported he had been disappointed with the efforts of his gelding. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a poor recovery. Stewards will follow up with the connections in the coming days.
THATS BETTOR - raced wide around the first bend. Driver W Frost was issued with a warning for restricting the racing room of inside runners shortly after the start. Mr Frost was further reprimanded for the manner in which he drove near the 2000 metres when shifting down the track when not sufficiently clear of HIGHLAND REIGN which had to be steadied.
GLACIER COASTER - broke in the score up losing considerable ground. A warning was placed on the mare's barrier record. Driver M Stratford was cautioned for the manner in which he restrained the horse when in a break. Improved wide without cover from the 1300 metres. Weakened from the 500 metres. Stewards questioned Mr Stratford regarding his decision to improve wide at this time after having lost considerable ground in a gallop at the start. Mr Stratford explained he had been advised by the trainer and previous driver that the horse races best when on the pace and so when the pace eased he elected to improve but had been unable to get closer in than three wide thereafter. Stewards advised Mr Stratford that in their opinion he had failed to place enough weight on the distance he had lost at the start when making this decision and by doing so he had erred in his judgement. Accordingly Mr Stratford was issued with a caution for driving in a manner which was capable of diminishing his horse's chances.
JAMIES BAD BOY - driver S Wigg will be spoken to and advised she is required to make a better effort to maintain a straight course in the run home.
HIGHLAND REIGN - the required veterinary clearance was received. Out of position at the start. Stewards spoke with driver C Negus regarding this who advised that she had been reluctant to fill her position after she noticed MY NIKAYLA was having some difficulty maintaining its place on the gate. Stewards took the matter no further other than to remind Mrs Negus of her obligations. Hampered near the 2000 metres and had to be steadied.
ROYAL JESTER - crowded racing into the first bend. Raced wide around the first bend.
Race 2   CHRISTCHURCH CASINO SUPPORTING NZ TROTTING CUP MOB PACE

BUSH MAN - hung inwards and raced roughly in the score up and was out of position at the start. Over-raced through the middle stages. Held up in the early and middle stages of the home straight. Driver M Williamson advised he had not activated the sliding blinds or deafeners in consequence.
Race 3   VINCE HARDER ON THE LINDAUER LAWN-ADDINGTON CUP WEEK TROT
LISTEN EASY - tangled at the start. Held up approaching the 100 metres and had to shift ground inwards to continue improving.
PACINO - broke racing into the first bend. Again broke near the 2100 metres. Trotted roughly passing the 800 metres and lost ground as a result.

DREAM OF GLORY - hampered by a breaking runner in the score up and was a length out of position at the start. Stewards delayed the all clear and questioned driver M Purdon regarding this incident and whether that interference had materially prejudiced his chances (finished 3rd). After hearing the evidence from Mr Purdon and Starter Mr P Lamb, Stewards requested a ruling from the JCA who determined that the runner had not been denied a fair start with stakes and dividends paid accordingly.
STORM - hung outwards in the score up and was out of position at the start. Hung inwards when improving passing the 1100 metres.
OFF THE EDGE - driver R Holmes reported a sulky tyre had deflated during the running.

MATUA TANA - broke in the score up and was out of position at the start. Broke again with 1100 metres to run. Stood down to complete one satisfactory trial.

Race 7   McMILLAN EQUINE FEEDS SIRES STAKES SERIES (HEAT 5) MOB PACE
AQUA SANCTA - held up throughout the home straight. Stewards questioned driver M Purdon on his decision not to shift outwards and obtain clear running approaching the 500 metres when the final opportunity existed to do so. Mr Purdon explained he had raced parked for the initial 1000 metres and when doing so his colt had over-raced with him being concerned his horse had expended too much energy through this time. Stewards accepted his comments.
CARLOS BROMAC - paced roughly and then broke with 900 metres to run. Driver G Smith advised that he would be recommending gear changes.
DINA BOLT - held up late in the run home.
SILENT MAJOR - hampered by a breaking runner near the 850 metres.
VIRGIL - held up late in the run home.
BEEZ NEEZ - broke at the start. A warning was placed on the gelding's barrier record. Broke when being steadied to avoid a galloping runner near the 850 metres.
ITALIAN LAD - cleared from the unruly for future mobile starts.
Race 8   AVON CITY FORD SUPPORTING ADDINGTON CUP WEEK MOBILE TROT
CHASING GREAT - hung inwards severely through the final straight giving driver K Townley considerable difficulty. Raced inside the pylons over the final 50 metres despite the efforts of Mr Townley. Stewards determined that no advantage had been gained through this. Mr Townley advised it was his intention to make gear changes (add boring pole) and alter the horse's bit.
UNIQUE ROSE - broke in the score up and was out of position at the start. Raced wide in the early and middle stages. Had difficulty maintaining its position in the field inside the final 800 metres.
QUAESTOR - broke at the start. Raced wide from the 700 metres. Trotted roughly on the final bend and throughout the run home with driver K Butt unable to pressure the mare. Miss Butt reported the deafeners had not been released in consequence.

A false start was declared when the arm of the mobile gate brushed the outside fence causing GEORGIE ZUKOV and PHILADELPHIA FREEDOM to break.
STREET APPEAL - over-raced through the middle stages.
A DELIGHTFUL ACT - driver M Anderson reported he had not activated the sliding blinds due to having the field covered.
GOTTA PARTY DOLL - broke with 500 metres to run. Stewards questioned drivers B Weaver and R May (PHILADELPHIA FREEDOM) regarding this incident after which it was established that the two runners sulkies had come together when jostling for a position and when freed the left sulky wheel on PHILADELPHIA FREEDOM shifted inwards abruptly and contacted the hind leg of GOTTA PARTY DOLL causing it to gallop. Stewards were not satisfied that either driver was solely responsible but will speak with Mr Weaver in the coming days as to what is expected of him in similar circumstances.
SHEZSOMETHINSPECIAL - raced wide through the early and middle stages.
CHALBERG - weakened near the 400 metres. When questioned regarding the performance, trainer B Weaver advised it was his intention to make gear changes to assist the gelding's gait.
Race 10   DUNSTAN HORSE FEEDS MET MEGA SERIES FINAL MOBILE PACE
