Stewards, after considering his explanation, were satisfied that Mr Williamson's actions were not unreasonable given the circumstances.

Driver Williamson explained that after surrendering the lead to BETTERTHANDIVA near the 1600m he elected to shift ground outwards near the 1300m in an attempt to regain the lead believing BETTERTHANDIVA would surrender the lead to a more favoured runner at that stage of the race after working hard early. Stewards, after considering his explanation, were satisfied that Mr Williamson's actions were not unreasonable given the circumstances. BETTERTHANDIVA - broke in the score up however was in position at the start. Weakened final bend hampering a trailing runner. A post-race Veterinary examination revealed the mare to have a high heart rate and to be slightly lame. Stood down pending a Veterinary clearance prior to resuming. Stewards questioned driver L Dobbs regarding the manner he drove during the running, in particular through the early and middle stages when attempting to lead and failing to give his runner any respite for a considerable distance. After hearing the explanation tendered, Stewards issued a charge under Rule 869(3)(g) in that he drove in a manner capable of diminishing his chances with Mr Dobbs admitting the breach. After viewing the replays and considering submissions on penalty the Adjudicative Committee suspended Mr Dobbs' driver's licence from the conclusion of racing today, 6 March, up to and including 1 April 2024, (7 days).
