ARAFURA - lay inwards and was awkwardly placed close to the sulky of BETTER BE QUICK which had lay outwards near the 230m. Broke passing the 200m hampering the trailing KATYS SHADOW and losing ground. Authorisation of 1st placing was withheld until the Stewards were satisfied the filly had complied with the Breaking Horses Regulation and lost ground when in a break, and also that KATYS SHADOW would not have finished ahead of this runner despite being hampered near the 200m.

The start of this race was delayed approximately 6 minutes due firstly to St John Ambulance personnel attending to driver P Hunter and secondly the sulky tyre on SHOWCASE deflating in the preliminary requiring a change of sulky. As a consequence, Stewards showed leniency in assessing horse penalties for this race due to the long delay.
