COMMANDER JOE - Stewards investigated a perceived breach of the Push Out Rule near the 1600m after COMMANDER JOE briefly raced wider on the track when FIVE CROWNS shifted ground outwards. After speaking to driver M Williamson (COMMANDER JOE) and viewing the replays it was established driver B Orange (FIVE CROWNS) had commenced his outward movement prior to COMMANDER JOE reaching his sulky wheel and no further action was deemed necessary.

A post-race veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormalities. Stewards will follow up with connections in the coming days.

C C ARDEN - broke near the 200m losing all chance and was pulled up shortly after the finish line. Transported from the track by the Horse Ambulance after showing signs of lameness. A post-race veterinary examination revealed lameness in the left hind leg and the gelding was stood down pending a veterinary clearance prior to resuming.

Trainer J Douglas advised Stewards on 24 March that ALWAYS BE BATMAN has been treated for a virus since last racing.

Driver N Williamson was issued with a subsequent charge under Rule 869(3)(b) alleging that he drove carelessly in this incident. The matter was adjourned by the Adjudicative Committee to be heard on Wednesday 12 March. Continued to lay in at stages in the run home.

HERE'S JOHNY - when questioned regarding the tactics he adopted near the 1700-metre mark when shifting from a trailing position to race in the running line, Driver P Hunter explained that the gelding performs better when there is genuine pace in the race. Mr. Hunter added that, as the pace eased momentarily during the middle stages, he believed his best option was to attempt to take the lead in order to maintain a genuine tempo. However, he was ultimately unable to do so. Stewards noted Mr. Hunter's explanation.
