MONTAGE - over-raced middle stages. Held up early in the run home. Blundered near the 100m after striking a knee, checking trailing runners and losing all chance. A warning was placed on the racing record of the gelding. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Driver T Nally advised he would be recommending gear changes. Mr Nally also reported the gelding had cast a shoe during the running.

MAGIC SIGN - locked sulky wheels briefly with EMERALD ABBEY near the 300m. Stewards spoke with drivers H Douglas (MAGIC SIGN) and P Hunter (EMERALD ABBEY) where it was established that MAGIC SIGN had attempted to shift EMERALD ABBEY wider on the track however MAGIC SIGN had hung outwards and EMERALD ABBEY was slow react to the movement. After viewing the films Stewards could not apportion blame to any one driver or horse and accordingly the matter was taken no further.

EMERALD ABBEY - locked sulky stays with HOT FIZZ rounding the final bend losing all chance. Driver P Hunter reported that the mare had cast the near hind shoe rounding the final bend.

CHEZZ DALE - raced wide early. When questioned regarding the performance driver O Kite advised that although the gelding was fresh up and had worked hard early he was still disappointed with the effort given the horse's preparation leading into the meeting. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Stewards will follow up with connections in the coming days.

CHEZZ DALE - weakened from the 800m hampering trailing runners and was retired from the event by driver K Larsen. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have a high heart rate and slow recovery. Stewards will follow up with trainer K Larsen in the coming days.

MAGIC SIGN - the required veterinary clearance was received. Raced wide early. Hampered by a breaking runner near the 1400m. Broke briefly rounding the final bend hampering an outside runner losing all chance. Stewards questioned junior driver H Douglas, assisted by C Ferguson, regarding this incident. Mr Douglas explained that the gelding had paced roughly rounding the final bend when placed in clear air and when he took a hold the horse lay outwards and broke, making contact with the sulky of EMERALD ABBEY. After viewing the replays and hearing from Mr Douglas, Stewards were satisfied the incident was a result of the manners of MAGIC SIGN and placed a warning on the racing record of the gelding.

MAGIC SIGN - weakened from the 600m. Driver H Douglas advised the gelding had been on one rein throughout and had difficulty negotiating the bends. A post-race veterinary examination revealed signs of lameness. Stood down pending a veterinary clearance prior to resuming.
