MONTAGE - over-raced middle stages. Held up early in the run home. Blundered near the 100m after striking a knee, checking trailing runners and losing all chance. A warning was placed on the racing record of the gelding. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Driver T Nally advised he would be recommending gear changes. Mr Nally also reported the gelding had cast a shoe during the running.

Driver R Stevens admitted a charge under Rule 869(2) and the Whip & Rein Regulations that he used his whip with more than a wrist flicking motion in the run home. After viewing replays and considering submissions on penalty the Adjudicative Committee imposed a fine of $250.

MAGIC SIGN - locked sulky wheels briefly with EMERALD ABBEY near the 300m. Stewards spoke with drivers H Douglas (MAGIC SIGN) and P Hunter (EMERALD ABBEY) where it was established that MAGIC SIGN had attempted to shift EMERALD ABBEY wider on the track however MAGIC SIGN had hung outwards and EMERALD ABBEY was slow react to the movement. After viewing the films Stewards could not apportion blame to any one driver or horse and accordingly the matter was taken no further.

THE ORANGE ROUGHY - over-raced shortly after start placing driver B Orange at a disadvantage. Struck the sulky wheel of BINGO BANGO, resulting in the tyre puncturing and the gelding being retired from the event. A warning was placed on the barrier record of THE ORANGE ROUGHY.

THE ORANGE ROUGHY - raced greenly in the early stages. Held up for clear racing room in the early and middle stages of the run home. Driver C Ferguson reported he did not release the removable deafeners as a consequence. Stewards questioned Mr Ferguson regarding his decision not to utilise the passing lane when the opportunity existed entering the home straight. Mr Ferguson explained that he was having steering difficulties on various occasions during the race and he was unable to steer the gelding down into the passing lane prior to LUCYS DELIGHT taking that run. Stewards noted Mr Ferguson's comments.

PACIFIC ARC - driver O Kite reported he was disappointed with the gelding's effort and could offer no explanation. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a high heart rate. Trainer N Williamson reported he will have blood tests conducted on the gelding which Stewards will follow up.

RACIE DALE - raced greenly and then paced roughly losing ground, when initially trying to shift the rapidly improving PACIFIC ARC which lay inwards, wider on the track near the 450m. Stewards spoke with drivers S Walkinshaw (RACIE DALE) and N Williamson (PACIFIC ARC) regarding this incident. After hearing from both drivers and viewing the films Stewards could not apportion blame to any one horse or driver and accordingly took the matter no further. Lay outwards and raced in restricted room over the concluding stages.
