MATAURA B B - broke passing the 800m losing ground. Weakened over the concluding stages. Stewards spoke with drivers J Cox (MATAURA B B) and M Hurrell (NYLA) regarding the incident near the 800m where MATAURA B B broke. It was established that when Mr Hurrell pushed Mr Cox wider on the track at this stage, MATAURA B B had lay in simultaneously to NYLA laying out with both drivers immediately taking corrective action, however the sulky wheel of NYLA touched the near hind leg of MATAURA B B which broke in consequence. After interviewing both drivers and reviewing the footage Stewards could not apportion fault to any one horse or driver and accordingly took the matter no further.

Mr Black was further issued a charge under Rule 869(2) and the Whip and Rein Regulations in that he used his whip with more than a wrist flicking motion in the run home with the matter adjourned sine die by the Adjudicative Committee.

MUCHACHO - over-raced and lay outwards near the 1100m and was awkwardly placed close to the sulky of DECEPTIVE LEE when being steadied. Lay outwards rounding the final bend and in the early stages of the run home and was unable to utilise a run to the inside having to be steadied and shifted outwards. Stewards will speak with connections in the coming days regarding the performance of the gelding.

MUCHACHO - raced fiercely in the early stages causing driver B Williamson some difficulty and made contact with the sulky wheel of FIRST LIGHT near the 1900m with the tyre puncturing as a result. A warning was placed on the racing record of the gelding.

MUCHACHO - hung outwards when weakening final bend. When questioned regarding the performance driver B Williamson advised the gelding had been striking a knee and was racing up in grade. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

STILL ROCKIN - fractious prior to the start. Sent to the Unruly position by Starter Mr B Ward where the gelding will remain for future standing starts. Refused to pace away after the start was effected losing all chance. Driver R Gutsell was warned after using his whip with more than a wrist flicking motion shortly after the start.

STILL ROCKIN - hung inwards rounding the final bend and was awkwardly placed close to the sulky of HACKSAW RIDGE which had shifted ground marginally and broke hampering trailing runners. Stewards questioned drivers M Hill (STILL ROCKIN), assisted by C Barron, and N Williamson (HACKSAW RIDGE) in relation to this. After hearing from both drivers and viewing replays, Stewards could not apportion sole blame to any one driver and accordingly took the matter no further other than to place a warning on the racing record of STILL ROCKIN.
