IMPERIAL COMMAND - raced three wide in the early stages until reaching the parked position near the 1200m. Unsuccessfully challenged for the lead through the middle stages. Weakened early in the run home. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Stewards questioned driver A Clark regarding the tactics he adopted through the middle stages when challenging KRACKA LOOKA for the lead before weakening. After considering his explanation, Stewards issued a charge under Rule 869(3)(g) alleging he drove in a manner capable of diminishing his chances of winning when applying significant pressure to KRACKA LOOKA which was leading through the middle stages. Mr Clark admitted the charge and after viewing the replays and hearing evidence from Stewards and Mr Clark, the Adjudicative Committee suspended his driver's licence from the conclusion of racing today up to and including 24 September 2023 (6 days).

MATAURA B B - broke passing the 800m losing ground. Weakened over the concluding stages. Stewards spoke with drivers J Cox (MATAURA B B) and M Hurrell (NYLA) regarding the incident near the 800m where MATAURA B B broke. It was established that when Mr Hurrell pushed Mr Cox wider on the track at this stage, MATAURA B B had lay in simultaneously to NYLA laying out with both drivers immediately taking corrective action, however the sulky wheel of NYLA touched the near hind leg of MATAURA B B which broke in consequence. After interviewing both drivers and reviewing the footage Stewards could not apportion fault to any one horse or driver and accordingly took the matter no further.
SINAI SERMON - weakened early in the run home. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. When questioned regarding the tactics he adopted during the running, driver C Dalgety advised that after obtaining cover in the early stages his horse had begun to over-race so he elected to improve forward near the 1500m in an attempt to obtain the lead. SINAI SERMON then commenced to lay inwards near the 1200m when attempting to cross the pace-making FLYING BIRD and consequently despite his efforts he had been unable to improve to that position. Mr Dalgety added that when he became aware that FLYING BIRD was under pressure near the 600m he felt his best option was to improve forward again in an attempt to cross to the marker line. After considering his explanation Stewards were satisfied Mr Dalgety's tactics were not unreasonable in the circumstances and took the matter no further.
DECEPTIVE LEE - junior driver S Hill, assisted by senior driver J Cox, admitted a charge under Rule 869(2) and the Whip and Rein Regulations in that he used his whip in a continuous manner in the run home. After viewing the replays and considering submissions on penalty the Adjudicative Committee suspended Mr Hill's driver's licence from the conclusion of racing on 2 March up to and including 9 March 2025 (3 days).
HAZER - broke in the score up and was out of position at the start. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the gelding. Over-raced middle stages.
HAZER - attempted to shift off the back of a weakening runner leaving the back straight and trailed the sulky wheel for a distance which resulted in a trailing runner being placed in restricted room near the 500m. Driver B Williamson was warned for half carting. Hampered by a weakening runner rounding the final bend and then hung outwards in the run home with Mr Williamson confirming when questioned that he did not release the removable deafeners as a consequence.
For R50 to R73 pacers. Front: R50 to R57. 10m: R58 to R65. 20m: R66 to R73. This race is included in the COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIP. The winner of the corresponding race on Day 1 of the meeting (Ebury Street) will not be re-handicapped for this race.
