SHE'S TOUGH - over-raced early and middle stages when racing wide on the track. Unsuccessfully challenged for the lead through the middle stages. Weakened final bend and was crowded by outside runners. Stewards questioned driver R Reekie regarding the tactics he adopted through the middle stages when unsuccessfully challenging JUBILEE ROCK for the lead before weakening. After considering his explanation, Stewards issued a charge under Rule 869(3)(g) alleging he drove in a manner capable of diminishing his chances of winning by failing to give his horse sufficient respite when continuing to apply pressure to JUBILEE ROCK which was leading through the middle stages. Mr Reekie admitted the charge and after viewing the replays and hearing submissions on penalty, the Adjudicative Committee suspended Mr Reekie's Amateur driver's licence from the conclusion of racing today up to and including 1 September 2024 (4 months).

SINAI SERMON - weakened early in the run home. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. When questioned regarding the tactics he adopted during the running, driver C Dalgety advised that after obtaining cover in the early stages his horse had begun to over-race so he elected to improve forward near the 1500m in an attempt to obtain the lead. SINAI SERMON then commenced to lay inwards near the 1200m when attempting to cross the pace-making FLYING BIRD and consequently despite his efforts he had been unable to improve to that position. Mr Dalgety added that when he became aware that FLYING BIRD was under pressure near the 600m he felt his best option was to improve forward again in an attempt to cross to the marker line. After considering his explanation Stewards were satisfied Mr Dalgety's tactics were not unreasonable in the circumstances and took the matter no further.

Stewards questioned Mr Dunn regarding the tactics he adopted during the running. Mr Dunn explained the gelding had raced greenly through the early stages and paced roughly losing ground resulting in him having to chase to catch the body of the field near the 1000m. Mr Dunn added the horse was racing up in grade and he was reluctant to improve his position in the middle stages after having to work hard early to obtain cover. Mr Dunn further added that when improving on the final bend he had been forced to race very wide on the track however was pleased with the gelding's effort given the fast overall time.
