HES SANTAS EXCUSE - hampered by a weakening runner final bend. Shifted ground outwards near the 250m and made contact with the sulky wheel of SIR MONTY. Driver J Cox was issued a warning for the manner in which he drove when shifting ground. In taking this course of action Stewards were satisfied there had been no consequential effects.

INTERPOL - paced roughly in the early stages. Retired from the race passing the 900m. Driver S Ottley advised the gelding had been making abnormal breathing noises and pacing roughly. Stewards spoke to junior driver H Orange (assisted by S Ottley) and after viewing the replays it was deemed the contact had been accidental and no further action was required. Locked wheels briefly with ITZ ALL FIRED UP passing the 180m after that runner lay outwards.

Driver L Dobbs admitted a breach of Rule 869(2) and the Whip and Rein Regulations in that he used his whip with more than a wrist flicking motion in the early stages. After viewing the replays and hearing submissions on penalty, the Adjudicative Committee imposed a fine of $300. Mr Dobbs also admitted a breach of Rule 869(3)(b) in that he drove carelessly by shifting inwards shortly after the start when insufficiently clear of FERNZ GOLDY which was checked. After viewing the replays and hearing penalty submissions, the Adjudicative Committee imposed a fine of $250.
