CYCLONE ZION W - underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after not having raced for a considerable period of time and was cleared to start. Trotted roughly in the score up and was back from the unruly position at the start. Switched to a pace near the 1200m and had to be broken up by driver B Butt losing all chance. When questioned regarding the performance Mr Butt advised the gelding had objected to the track grit kickback and he would be making gear changes.

CYCLONE ZION W - raced wide early. Switched to a pace near the 1100m and had to be broken up by its driver losing all chance. Stewards lodged a protest against this runner's 4th placing under Rule 870(3) and the Breaking Horses Regulation alleging the gelding had been in the incorrect gait in excess of 150m. After viewing the replays the connections did not contest the protest and CYCLONE ZION W was disqualified by the Stewards.

BAFFLED - co-trainers R & J Dunn were issued a $100 Minor Infringement Notice for presenting the filly to race with a pacifier which had not been notified.

BAFFLED - the boring pole was removed prior to the start after warming up unfavourably. Driver R Harrison advised the filly had trotted roughly at various stages in the run home. When questioned regarding the performance connections advised they were not disappointed with the effort after racing up in grade from its last start. Miss Harrison was shown the replay and spoken to advisedly to ensure she does not allow her horse to shift wider on the track leaving the final bend.

CLOVELLY HILL - raced wide early and middle stages. Shifted inwards near the 900m when insufficiently clear of SCHOEMAKER which was checked and broke losing ground. After questioning drivers J Smith (SCHOEMAKER) and B Orange (CLOVELLY HILL) and hearing their explanations, Stewards issued a charge under Rule 869(3)(b) alleging Mr Orange had driven carelessly in this incident. Mr Orange advised he would be defending the charge with the hearing being opened and adjourned until the NZ Metropolitan TC meeting on 4 August 2024.
