Driver J Dunn reported the gelding had hung inwards badly rounding the final bend and early in the run home resulting in him being unable to shift wider on the track to obtain clear running. Mr Dunn added he would be recommending gear changes prior to the gelding resuming.

MELTON MAGNATE - over-raced middle stages. Held up middle stages of the run home. Shifted out near the 50m checking JUST FOXIN (T Williams) which paced roughly after striking the sulky wheel of MELTON MAGNATE. Driver R May defended a breach of Rule 869(3)(b) alleging he drove carelessly when shifting ground and checking an outside runner. After viewing the replays and hearing evidence from Stewards and both drivers the Adjudicative Committee found the charge proved and imposed a fine of $300.

ALWAYS BEE GEE - raced roughly and broke shortly after the start losing ground. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the gelding. Held up for clear racing room late in the run home.

A false start was declared when ALWAYS BEE GEE (S Thornley) backed away and swung sideways just prior to the start and locked wheels with THE LAZARUS EFFECT (B Butt) with both drivers being dislodged. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the gelding. Prior to the restart both horses underwent a veterinary examination and were cleared of injury. Both drivers were cleared to drive by St John personnel. ALWAYS BEE GEE was sent to the unruly position by the Starter for the restart where the gelding will remain for future standing starts. The start was further delayed due to the Starter not being satisfied with the manner in which the field was addressing the barrier strand.

ZARLINI - broke at the start and shifted outwards and locked wheels with FRANCO CHAPLIN with trailing runners also being checked. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the mare.

RAPID RESPONSE - held up early in the run home. Driver H Orange's foot slipped from the sulky footrest near the 300m when activating gear and made contact with the gelding's hind leg. Stewards spoke to junior driver H Orange (assisted by S Ottley) and after viewing the replays it was deemed the contact had been accidental and no further action was required. Locked wheels briefly with ITZ ALL FIRED UP passing the 180m after that runner lay outwards.

ITZ ALL FIRED UP - weakened final bend. When questioned regarding the performance driver G O'Reilly advised he was disappointed with the effort and was unable to provide any explanation. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. A warning was placed on the racing performance of the gelding. Trainer S Adlam advised he would be making gear changes prior to resuming.
