AVENGER - held up throughout the run home. Stewards questioned driver W House regarding his decision to shift inwards near the 600m. Mr House explained that at the time he shifted inwards ALMIGHTY CLEVER which he was trailing was under pressure and believed it was his best option to shift inwards in an attempt to save ground instead of being forced to race wider. After considering Mr House's explanation and viewing the replays, Stewards were satisfied his decision at the time was not unreasonable and took the matter no further.

Junior driver A Cameron was warned for using her whip on a runner out of contention. Connections advised the gelding cast the near front shoe during the running and the horse would now be sent for a spell.

THE FINISHER - raced greenly when over-racing near the 2400m and made contact with the sulky of HES FAST AND FURIOUS and broke hampering trailing runners. Raced three wide from the 1000m. Hung inwards and broke again near the 250m hampering a trailing runner losing its chance. Driver A Cameron reported she had difficulty steering the gelding throughout. A warning was placed on the racing record of the horse.

Miss Cameron was issued a warning for using her whip with more than a wrist flicking motion in the run home.

The connections did not contest the protest and STAR MAGIC was relegated to 6th placing.

Junior driver O Thornley (assisted by J Dunn) admitted a breach of Rule 869(3)(b) in that she drove carelessly approaching the first bend after shifting ground when insufficiently clear of OPO which had to be restrained. After viewing the replays and hearing submissions on penalty, the Adjudicative Committee suspended Miss Thornley's driver's licence from the conclusion of racing on 10 May up to and including 17 May 2024 (3 days).

Stewards questioned drivers B Orange (JAZZY STYX), T Chmiel (U R THE ONE), J Dunn (OPO) and W House (WRIGGLES RUFUS) regarding this incident before adjourning the matter for further consideration.
