SPEED WRITER - driver R Holmes defended a breach of Rule 869(3)(b) alleging he drove carelessly leaving the final bend when allowing his horse to shift inwards checking BUDDHA (R Close) which broke. After viewing the replays and hearing evidence from Stewards and both drivers, Mr Holmes elected to change his plea to admit the charge and the Adjudicative Committee suspended Mr Holmes' driver's licence from the conclusion of racing on 10 March up to and including 24 March 2024 (5 days).

SHE'S A MAJOR ACT - hampered by a weakening runner near the 300m. Held up throughout the run home. Stewards questioned Junior driver S Hill (assisted by R May) regarding his decision to shift outwards instead of waiting to utilise the passing lane near the 250m. Mr Hill explained that he elected to shift outwards early in the run home as a result of KAIRAKI VEGAS which he had been trailing commencing to race greenly and weaken. Mr Hill added that he felt his best option was to shift outwards to follow JENA which was travelling well instead of waiting for the passing lane and being held up. After considering his explanation and viewing the replays, Stewards were satisfied his actions were not unreasonable in the circumstances and took the matter no further.

When questioned regarding the performance driver S Hill advised the filly had raced lethargically and had been disappointing however may not have been suited by today's track conditions. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a high respiratory rate and slow recovery. Stewards will follow up with connections in the coming days. Mr Hill was warned for driving with his foot out of the sulky footrest in the run home.

A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding had suffered an atrial fibrillation. Stood down pending a veterinary clearance including the results of an ECG prior to completing one satisfactory trial before resuming.

After viewing the replays and hearing submissions on penalty the Adjudicative Committee suspended Mrs Young-Grant's driver's licence from the conclusion of racing today up to and including 15 September 2024 (2 days). A post-race veterinary examination at the request of connections revealed swelling on the knee consistent with the gelding striking itself and was treated by the Veterinarian.
