VERDUCCI - driver J Young-Grant admitted a breach of Rule 869(2) and the Whip and Rein Regulations in that she used her whip with more than a wrist flicking motion in the run home. After viewing the replays and hearing submissions on penalty the Adjudicative Committee suspended Mrs Young-Grant's driver's licence from the conclusion of racing today up to and including 15 September 2024 (2 days). A post-race veterinary examination at the request of connections revealed swelling on the knee consistent with the gelding striking itself and was treated by the Veterinarian.

Stewards spoke to Junior driver R Harrison, who declined assistance from a Senior driver, regarding this with Miss Harrison advising that she was having difficulty steering her runner. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the gelding. Notwithstanding this Miss Harrison was reminded of her obligations to make a better effort to be in her correct position at the start. Lay inwards and struck a track marker near the 1600m.

Stewards questioned Junior driver S Hill (assisted by R May) regarding his decision to shift outwards instead of waiting to utilise the passing lane near the 250m. Mr Hill explained that he elected to shift outwards early in the run home as a result of KAIRAKI VEGAS which he had been trailing commencing to race greenly and weaken. Mr Hill added that he felt his best option was to shift outwards to follow JENA which was travelling well instead of waiting for the passing lane and being held up. After considering his explanation and viewing the replays, Stewards were satisfied his actions were not unreasonable in the circumstances and took the matter no further.

Mr Hill was warned for driving with his foot out of the sulky footrest in the run home.
