THE MANTIS - lay inwards striking a track marker passing the 900m. Hung inwards and raced over a number of track markers near the 400m. A warning was placed on the racing record of the gelding. Authorisation of 2nd placing being awarded was withheld until Stewards were satisfied the gelding had not gained an advantage after racing over several track markers rounding the final bend. Driver S Thornley advised he would be recommending gear changes.

BRONSON - driver B Butt admitted a breach of Rule 869(3)(b) in that he drove carelessly late in the run home when shifting inwards crowding JACK TAR and KEEPING IT KIWI which had to be restrained. After viewing the replays and hearing penalty submissions the Adjudicative Committee imposed a fine of $500. Mr Butt was also warned for using his whip with more than a wrist flicking motion early in the run home.

When questioned regarding the performance driver B Butt advised the gelding had worked hard in the early stages and raced greenly passing the 1200m when attempting to improve to the lead resulting in the horse having to race parked with the effort taking its toll. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery.

Struck the wheel of BARNSTORMER when shifting outwards leaving the final bend. Paced roughly near the 50m having to be steadied. Driver B Orange was issued with a warning for the manner he drove leaving the final bend. In taking this course of action Stewards were mindful there had been no consequential effects.
