Shifted inwards inside the final 50m when driver R May activated the removable deafeners resulting in contact with the hind leg of KOTARE KELSO (S Thornley) which broke late in the run home. Driver R May defended a breach of Rule 869(3)(b) alleging he drove carelessly in this incident. After viewing the replays and hearing evidence from Stewards and both drivers the Adjudicative Committee dismissed the charge.

Broke again passing the 800m after having been shifted wider on the track by ANN SOPHIE and lost ground before settling. Broke on a further occasion passing the 350m losing all chance. A warning was placed on the gelding's racing manners. Driver P Ferguson reported the gelding had lost the near front shoe during the running. A post-race Veterinary examination revealed no significant abnormality.

When questioned regarding his decision to restrain racing down the back the first time and shift to the marker line Driver W House stated that in his opinion the mare would not have been suited to racing without cover so felt it was his best option to secure a trailing position. Mr House also advised that he had not activated the sliding blinds due to having been held up.

Stewards questioned Junior driver J Dunn (assisted by S Tomlinson) regarding the manner he drove between the 500m and the 400m of particular concern was his decision not to shift ground outwards when clearance existed prior to being covered by outside runners. Mr. Dunn advised that runners had improved rapidly with his mare causing him some difficulty at this point. He further added that shortly after he was hampered by a breaking runner and had this not occurred a run would have been available . After hearing from all parties and viewing the replays, Stewards advised Mr. Dunn not to leave his drives open to query in future when assessing this Stewards took into account Mr. Dunn's inexperience.
