CYCLONE ZION W - underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after not having raced for a considerable period of time and was cleared to start. Trotted roughly in the score up and was back from the unruly position at the start. Switched to a pace near the 1200m and had to be broken up by driver B Butt losing all chance. When questioned regarding the performance Mr Butt advised the gelding had objected to the track grit kickback and he would be making gear changes.

Stewards lodged a protest against this runner's 4th placing under Rule 870(3) and the Breaking Horses Regulation alleging the gelding had been in the incorrect gait in excess of 150m. After viewing the replays the connections did not contest the protest and CYCLONE ZION W was disqualified by the Stewards.

Mrs Tomlinson advised the gelding had been striking its own sulky wheels and proving difficult to control with gear changes being considered prior to the horse resuming.

Junior driver C Dalgety admitted a breach of Rule 869(3)(b) in that he drove carelessly when shifting ground near the 250m and contacted RACEY KRUSA resulting in his tyre puncturing. The hearing was adjourned by the Adjudicative Committee until Friday 24 January 2025.
