After speaking to drivers S Thornley (ALWAYS BEE GEE), S Ottley (ANYTIME AT ALL) and viewing the replays no further action was deemed necessary other than to note the circumstances.

A false start was declared when ALWAYS BEE GEE (S Thornley) backed away and swung sideways just prior to the start and locked wheels with THE LAZARUS EFFECT (B Butt) with both drivers being dislodged. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the gelding. Prior to the restart both horses underwent a veterinary examination and were cleared of injury. Both drivers were cleared to drive by St John personnel. ALWAYS BEE GEE was sent to the unruly position by the Starter for the restart where the gelding will remain for future standing starts. The start was further delayed due to the Starter not being satisfied with the manner in which the field was addressing the barrier strand.

IVAN THE GREAT - broke briefly shortly after the start hampering a trailing runner. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the gelding. Hampered by a slight easing of the pace and over-raced for a distance passing the 1500m causing driver A Edge difficulty and shifted outwards near the 1350m forcing SWEET SPIRIT to race wider on the track. Lay inwards for a distance and paced roughly when being shifted wider on the track near the 950m. Again lay inwards rounding the final bend causing driver A Edge difficulty and struck the sulky wheel of ARCHIE and broke and shifted inwards checking EVIDENTLY which fell dislodging driver K McClintock. Stood down to trial to the satisfaction of Stewards on one occasion prior to resuming.

Junior driver M Holbrough (assisted by M Purvis) admitted a breach of Rule 869(3)(b) in that she drove carelessly when shifting ground when insufficiently clear resulting in REGGIE GOLIGHTLY being crowded and THE NIGHT FOX being checked shortly after. After viewing the replays and hearing submissions on penalty the Adjudicative Committee suspended Miss Holbrough's driver's licence from the conclusion of racing tonight up to and including 6 October 2024 (2 days).

Authorisation of this runner's 1st placing was withheld until Stewards were satisfied the gelding had complied with the Breaking Horses Regulation and also that there were not sufficient grounds for a protest for any interference received by the 2nd placed MILLION DOLLAR CHIC. When questioned Driver W House confirmed that the gelding had jumped a shadow and that he then had difficulty shifting this runner outwards to avoid causing interference to trailing runners.

Miss Tomlinson was uninjured in this incident. Placed on the unruly for future standing starts.
