The winner will get a rating penalty free win if 4YO and older, and driven by a Junior Driver, and has not previously won a rating penalty free race this season. This race is included in the COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIP. This race is also a Northern Regional Pacers Cup Qualifier. Should the winner of the Wairarapa Cup from day 1 of the meeting be then rated above R60, it shall remain eligible for the corresponding race on day 2 of the meeting but shall be driven by a Concession Junior Driver.

RUN MASON RUN - when questioned regarding the tactics he adopted during the middle stages when electing to hold the parked position Driver S Abernethy stated that the gelding had performed well when driven in a similar manner previously and felt that CAULFIELD did not appear to be travelling well enough to warrant taking a trail on that runner. Mr Abernethy further stated that RUN MASON RUN had battled on strongly over the final stages to finish close up to the placegetters.

GOTTA ELECT BILL - attempted to pull up near the 1200m when leading resulting in an easing of the pace hampering trailing runners. A protest was lodged against 1st placing being awarded under Rule 869(7B) alleging the gelding had gained an advantage by racing inside the final track marker prior to the passing lane. After viewing the replays and hearing evidence from Stewards and driver W House the Adjudicative Committee dismissed the protest. Mr House was issued a warning for allowing his horse to race inside a track marker.
