When questioned regarding the performance driver M Hurrell advised the mare had travelled well until the 800m however had commenced to give ground from that point and he could offer no explanation. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormalities. A warning was placed on the racing performance of the mare.

DESERT DAWN - briefly placed in restricted room rounding the final turn. Driver F Phelan was warned for the manner in which he attempted to shift ground early in the run home when not in a position to move an outside runner wider. DESERT DAWN then raced in restricted room before contacting the sulky wheel of COMMANDER LINCOLN passing the 100m and paced roughly for several strides. In considering this matter Stewards took in to account that there had been movement from both COMMANDER LINCOLN and MIDFREW LUCRE which contributed to this incident.
