Stewards lodged a protest under Rule 870(5) against the 4th placing being awarded alleging the gelding was lapped on at the finish. After viewing the replays connections did not contest the protest and TUAREG was relegated to 5th placing by Stewards.

TUAREG - underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was cleared to start. Hampered by a slight easing of the pace near the 1000m.

A false start was declared when TUAREG broke in the score up and shifted out severely checking WORDS which fell with Driver A Poutama then being tipped from that runner's sulky once the filly regained its feet. Mr Poutama was examined by St John Ambulance staff and cleared of any injury. WORDS was declared a late scratching at 5.20pm on veterinary advice after sustaining a laceration to the near hind which required treatment. Driver S Abernethy (TUAREG) elected to shift to the unruly for the restart. The start was further delayed when the track had to be dragged with the event starting approx 14 minutes late.
