CLAUDE - Co-trainer A Neal advised Stewards leading into the meeting that the gelding had recovered from a virus following its disappointing run at its last start with the information being passed on to the commentator for public dissemination. Driver C Hackett reported that she didn't activate the deafeners due to having the field covered.

ROCK BAND - raced wide early. Raced keenly when leading through the middle stages. Lay in and dislodged a track marker near the 400m.

ROCK BAND - the murphy blind was removed prior to the start after the gelding warmed up unfavourably. Over-raced middle stages and broke briefly near the 1550m when being restrained off the back of HUGOTASTIC. Continued to over-race badly before being taken out three wide without cover near the 1000m. Commenced to weaken near the 500m. Stood down to trial to the satisfaction of Stewards on one occasion prior to resuming.

ROCK BAND - paced roughly entering the first turn and then broke hampering a trailing runner and lost all chance. Stood down to complete one satisfactory trial prior to resuming.

SEACLUSION - broke near the 1400m after successfully contesting for a position on the back of HOORAY HENRY losing ground. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormalities. Stewards will follow up with connections in the coming days. Stewards questioned drivers J Stormont (SEACLUSION) and T Herlihy (DAWSON) regarding this incident. Mr Stormont advised that his mare had paced roughly at stages throughout the event including shortly after this incident causing the horse to break briefly. After hearing from drivers and viewing the films Stewards were in agreeance that it was a racing incident with no further action deemed necessary.

HOORAY HENRY - held up on the final turn and throughout the run home. Junior Driver M Ranger (assisted by S Butcher) was questioned regarding her decision to shift from a position three back in the running line passing the 600m down on to the marker line. Ms Ranger stated that after being unable to obtain the position on the leader's back entering the first turn she had restrained to the rear rather than race without cover with the tempo through the middle stages then being moderate. Ms Ranger further stated that the tempo had then increased markedly entering the back straight the final time and believed that the final sectionals would be extremely fast so felt her best option was to improve to the markers and save ground by driving for luck however a clear run didn't eventuate. Mr Butcher stated that HOORAY HENRY had performed best when able to either lead or race handy with cover and felt that the gelding would not have been able to finish in a better position had it been taken wide. After considering the matter, and in particular the closing sectionals recorded, Stewards deemed that no further action was warranted other than to note the respective comments.

FERNLEIGH CASH - lay in and contacted a track marker near the 500m. Contacted further track markers approaching the 250m when in restricted room before racing over several more shortly after.

FERNLEIGH CASH - shifted up the track throughout the run home forcing AYE AYE CAPTAIN wider. Stewards lodged a protest under Rule 869A(2) against FERNLEIGH CASH's 1st placing alleging interference to AYE AYE CAPTAIN (Driver M White - 2nd place) throughout the run home. After hearing the relative evidence and viewing the replays the Adjudicative Committee dismissed the protest. Junior Driver K Denifostova, assisted by J Dickie, admitted an associated charge under Rule 869(3)(b) in that she drove carelessly in this incident by allowing her gelding to shift out throughout the run home. After hearing submissions on penalty the Adjudicative Committee imposed a fine of $400.

Junior Driver K Denifostova, assisted by J Abernethy, admitted a charge under Rule 869(4)(6)(b)(c) in that she shifted out near the 1600m forcing MIKI SHAN wider on the track. After viewing the replays and hearing penalty submissions the Adjudicative Committee imposed a fine of $200.

MIKI SHAN - lay inwards rounding the final turn contacting several track markers. Driver M McKendry admitted a charge under Rule 869(3)(b) in that he shifted ground inwards near the 600m when not sufficiently clear of MERLIN which had to be restrained thereby losing its racing position. After hearing penalty submissions the Adjudicative Committee suspended Mr McKendry's driver's licence from the conclusion of racing tonight up to and including 27 September 2024 (2 days).

AKATEA - Co-Trainer S Telfer advised Stewards on 29 August that the filly has had her knees treated since last having raced. Lay in striking a track marker near the 1300m. Raced fiercely throughout causing Driver K Denifostova considerable difficulty including early in the run home when attempting to shift wider to the inside of MIKI SHAN.

VILLAGE REBEL - Driver S Abernethy was questioned regarding a possible breach of the Push Out Rule approaching the 1000m where MIKI SHAN appeared to be forced to race wider on the track. After viewing the replays and hearing evidence from Mr Abernethy, Stewards took the matter no further.

Driver B Orange was questioned regarding this incident and advised that he had attempted to follow JOLIMONT when MIKI SHAN shifted wider passing the 400m but MCKENDRICK had lay in when in restricted room which resulted in the locking of wheels with the weakening ARTISAN. Given the circumstances Stewards took the matter no further other than to note the circumstances
