MARGHERITA - Junior Driver N Delany (assisted by B Mangos) admitted a charge under Rule 869(2) and the Whip and Rein Regulations in that he used his whip with more than a wrist flicking motion in the run home. After viewing the replays and hearing penalty submissions the Adjudicative Committee imposed a fine of $250.

BETA PREPARE - raced keenly middle stages. Raced wide from the 500m. Paced roughly near the 250m and then failed to run on to finish at the rear. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormality. When questioned regarding the performance Driver D Butcher confirmed that the gelding had over-raced before pacing roughly on the final turn and then showed little when asked for an effort.

Driver C Sharpe was warned for using his whip in a continuous manner in the run home.

A post-race veterinary examination, which included an endoscopic procedure, revealed an irregularity with the epiglottis which requires further investigation. Stewards will follow up with connections in the coming days.

RED RACKHAM - broke at the start and shifted inwards locking wheels with an inside runner resulting in Driver J Abernethy being tipped from the sulky with resultant interference to VILLAGE REBEL with Driver S Abernethy also being tipped from the sulky. Both drivers were examined by St John Ambulance personnel and cleared to fulfil their remaining driving engagements.

TREACHEROUS LOVE - driver R May defended a breach of Rule 869(3)(b) alleging he drove carelessly when shifting ground racing into the first bend when not sufficiently clear resulting in TREACHEROUS BABY and ANYTIME AT ALL being checked. After viewing the replays and hearing evidence from Stewards and R May the Adjudicative Committee upheld the charge and suspended Mr May's driver's licence from the conclusion of racing today up to and including 3 December 2023 (6 days).
